We arrived in Lugano on a grey, very rainy afternoon to be met by Katarina with the sunniest of smiles which brightened up a dismal day. Guest House Castignola is as the name says situated in Castignola a beautiful old part of Lugano with winding cobbled lanes and lots of stairs. It is an easy twenty minute to half hours walk into the centre of Lugano or a ten minute bus ride. The bus stop is close by and buses are frequent. There are two restaurants and a bar within a very short walk but not much else. The old fishing village of Gandria is a lovely, easy walk away and a good spot for lunch on a sunny day Our room and bathroom were spacious, very well appointed and pristinely clean. The bed was very comfortable with beautiful linen. There was a coffee machine in our room as also a kettle for those early morning cups of coffee and also a television with numerous cable channels. Breakfast was delicious fresh fruit, muesli, yogurt, pastries, crispy bread and home made preserves. It was beautifully and artfully presented on a tray in our room which Katrina advised was a temporary measure until renovations to the neighbouring villa are completed.
