“Beautiful Location and Fantastic Breakfast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2014

This boutique hotel has a very beautiful location looking out on Lago Maggiore. From the hotel you can walk anywhere in Locarno. The lake front promenade is right across the street and you are only a few blocks from the train station and bus stops. The complimentary breakfast at the hotel is wonderful in terms of selection, quality, and service. The cafe is freshly ground and made to order. The staff was friendly and efficient. We had chose a small room because of its reasonable price and found it comfortable and adequate with a spacious and lovely bathroom. We were on the ground floor but were not bothered by traffic noises.

This penthouse is managed through Hotel Garni Millennium and can be seen in some of the photos of the hotel with windows and a semi enclosed balcony in the attic. 2 bedrooms and plenty of space in kitchen and living areas plus a private sunroof upstairs. We ate in a couple of nights and had drinks in the balcony area. We chose to eat breakfast downstairs as it was quite good and a nice way to start the day. Can be booked separately through booking.com. Overlooks harbour. No A/C so would get quite warm on a hot day but there are many windows to provide draft. A bit of noise from across the road bar on some nights, but worth that compromise for the scenic aspect and location. Friendly staff. Was a highlight of our trip.

The only one positive thing about this hotel - location! the hotel is situated just on the beautiful Lago Madgore score, the lake itself is very beautiful and the score has a wonderful promenade.
the negative impression from the hotel: the stuff absolutely unfriendly, incommunicative((( the wifi does not work at the day of my stay, the hotel stuff did not even make excuses for this, quite in contrary they said that normally people come there to have fun and not to use the computer!!! the breakfast is poor, the very uncomfortable thing is that you can not just make the tea or coffee yourself but you should order it to girl who is not the whole time there... so first find the girl than order your coffee than wait for it....
the room is small, but this fact is not the worst one^ the furniture comes definitely from 80s or even 70-s!!! as I saw the room i got really only one wish - escape!the bathroom is so small that i did not see the shower cabin at all because if you open the door the cabin is totally behind the door (so small the cabin is!).so I really have no idea how this hotel got this good rating, but its realy realy bad decision to choose it for my stay in Locarno((((

We have travelled around the world and we can honestly say that our experience with Millennium was as good as any hotel we have stayed at (including Wynn's Las Vegas). For us, the location was perfect - right on lake's edge and about 40 m from the ferry terminal. Magnificent uninterrupted view of the lake and snow capped mountains in the background. The hotel is very close to excellent restaurants and within walking distance of the train station, Piazza Grande and the Old Town as well as the funicular to the Pilgrimage Church of Madonna del Sasso.
We requested a double room with a lake view but, as these were taken, we were upgraded to the 'penthouse' which also had a lake facing balcony. This was at no extra cost on condition that we only used one of the two bedrooms and we didn't use the kitchen (both of which were fine by us).
The apartment was very clean as we assume the other rooms would be. The shower in the bathroom we chose (there were 2 bathrooms) was rather confined but we got used to that. Plenty of water pressure and instant hot water. Early in the evening there was traffic noise but this disappeared later in the evening. Importantly, the floors were serviced by an elevator.
Breakfast was included in the price and it included cereals, yoghurt, boiled eggs, sliced ham, cheeses and a selection of bread rolls and croissants. It was nicely presented and for us it was more than adequate. Petra made an excellent fresh coffee but there was also a range of teas available.
In our experience, it's the little things that are so important. We needed some laundry to be done and Sonje (who we think is the manager) said they would do a load in their machine for CHF10. Within a few hours it was pressed and beautifully laid out on our bed. It's also the chocolates on the bedside table and the very helpful advice about anything - ferry timetables, specialty shops etc etc.
Sonje and Petra are both multilingual, including speaking very fluent english. Ilda was the lady who looked after our room and our laundry. We will definitely stay there again and recommend the hotel to our friends.

We stayed one night at this hotel in Locarno. Pros: excellent location right in the city center, walking distance from everywhere, nice breakfast (selection of cheeses, bread, croissants, etc.), clean rooms, with electric kettle and tea, staff was nice and helpful. There is a very good tourist information office just nearby. Locarno itself was a good starting point for a trip to the nearby mountains and small towns. Cons: no hotel parking but a five-minute walking parking lot with discounted daily parking rates, the city itself doesn't have much to do in, other than walking along the lake shore.
There was an option of adding CHF65 for a balcony room, but we didn't want it and settled for a regular room. We drove to Verzasca Valley for a day trip, very nice with walking trails, and nature options (boulders, bridges, waterfall).

Room Tip: There was an option of adding CHF65 for a balcony room, but we didn't want it and settled for a...

Easy walking distance to train station ... priceless location on Locarno's waterfont right across from ferry terminal, yet amazingly quiet nights ... clean spacious room with balcony ... very nice breakfast ... lovely terrace cafes, restaurants and shopping nearby. And the staff were truly gracious, attentive and accommodating. All this at a very fair price!

My only problem -- wishing I was still there ...

As we were travelling by rail we chose this hotel due to its proximity to the railway station, just two blocks away. We booked a room overlooking the lake. It was very quiet at this time of year and we heard no street noise during the night. Both the room and bathroom were very clean and well maintained. Just across the road we could take a boat to the Brissago islands and to Ancona. The old town and shopping centre (mostly under arcades, so great on a rainy day) was just a two-minute walk away. There are a number of excellent restaurants just along the promenade.
