The skiing was brilliant and our ski instructor Sara was very good. The resort was fabulous. The Mountain restaurants would benefit from being a bit larger and better organised. The hotel (not pretty) was good the rooms were very good we stayed in a peak view room for a small supplement. The food was very good with lots of choice and two restaurants to choose from. The bar area was ok but could be cosier. It was cool at night in the bar area as it has windows all around which makes it lovely and light in the day. The shows were funny but would have benefited from a bit more rehearsal. The ski store area was a bit basic with no boot drying facilities and the ski store was too cramped when trying to lock your skis away. Use a suitcase padlock to ensure no one takes the wrong skis!
The staff were very friendly and Patrick the manager was very visible and helpful. He is new there and I am sure he will get things more organised.
The walk in the morning to the nearest lift was a nightmare there was no shuttle to that one? but there was always a shuttle bus in the afternoon for a lift back. Don't go for a relaxing massage later in the day as the noise from the children is a bit off putting or wear ear plugs!
We had a fab holiday and would go again.

Very cold in rooms. Use hairdryer. Internet server reports of fraud each time you enter. Need to find good spot for wifi. Reception mostly busy, some times rude. Food is good. 3* hotel. No bath in rooms. Cold swimming pool. Kids area open outside doors - cold - impossible to play during the day. No food service out of regular times. Small heating for clothes in rooms. No warming/drying for skiboots.

Difficult review to write as our experience was very mixed over the course of our 1 week holiday. We debated long and hard about coming to Roi Soleil, largely due to the amount of negative feedback on trip advisor, but in the end decided to book.

Pros
- lessons with the ski school are excellent. We haven't had lessons since we were children, and appreciated the off piste level 6 class and felt that we progressed
- varied ski area
- rooms were clean and serviced daily
- food is varied and of OK quality
- St Moritz is expensive so can be a cost effective way to travel there
- bus travel provided to other resorts for skiing

Cons
- unfortunately our flights were at terrible times
- we had a 1.5 hr wait at the airport for other flights to arrive, and there is nothing to do at Zurich airport
- check in took hours - 4.5 to be exact, and included queuing twice, and one room which hadn't actually been cleaned. Once cleaned my husband still had nail clippings on his bedside table
- only showers and no baths in the rooms
- food was sometimes difficult if you don't eat meat as it was often in rice and vegetable dishes
- Staff largely unhelpful, shouted at me as we didn't have our transfer time back from the hotel to airport because a member if staff had forgotten to do it, bill was wrong, no help to resolve it, we had to sort out ourselves....lots of incidents like this...
- lift systems are quite old and slow, and quite a few buttons / t bars
-alcohol might be free, but you do get what you pay for - wine and gin were not great, so you end up paying for it anyway!

What we couldn't fault - hard working, friendly staff, great choice of meals (including oysters and lobster) - excellent, free-flowing drinks and food. Rooms are clean, with comfortable beds, wooden floors and though a little on the basic side, absolutely fine for skiing. Our rooms only had showers not baths but that suited us just fine - though towels were thin and shower gel not replenished. Restaurants on mountains are an added bonus and ski instruction was spot on. We used the spa - great treatments and reasonably priced but pool was freezing throughout our stay. Entertainment was plentiful, staff did their best, but some was cringeworthy - then again they don't profess to be professional and with so many nationalities to cater for it's difficult to please everyone or meet everyone's taste. Very little in St Moritz for non-skiers and staff devoid of ideas - 'a walk round the lake' was their only suggestion on our non-ski day (tho' you can of course ski every day).

Easy 10 min walk to lift - just as well as buses and shuttles not that pleniful. Kids clubs kept younger children entertained and teens seemed to make friends easily and enjoy the night life. Wifi hopeless - we willing paid the 25 franc charge but seldom managed to actually access the internet - early morning at best - teatime impossible. Long transfer from Zurich so you might want to take food - esp if you had an early start from UK.

Overall a great holiday and we would use Club Med again. A few tweaks here and there would make it perfect.

I spent 5 days at the Club Med in St Moritz from Dec 18th until Dec 22.

As noticed by many travelers the building is in need of renovation and certainly does not cope with any 4 stars hotel in Switzerland. At best a 3 stars. The room we had was small but functional and very clean. The building must be from the 70's. Not fancy at all. functional at best. This is true for all areas we found. Also the furniture is quite outdated and not up to the level of a 4 stars hotel. We heard from the staff that the location (building) is owned 50/50 by Club Med and another company that is using the resort during the summer time. A specific company has been created for that purpose and own the building. This is apparently the reason why no serious renovation takes place. Possibly the location is not the best in St Moritz and renovation would be too costly. Bottom line: building and facilities are definitely not up to the level of a 4 star hotel.

The staff is generally very nice and welcoming. They definitely have a lot to do and to bear with customers that are very demanding for most of them. Especially at the bar where you get free alcoholic beverages. Sometimes we even felt ashamed for people complaining they had not enough in the glasses served so asking to fill up the glasses. Curious as they could have simply asked for another glass once the one they had was empty. But I guess I see it wrong as I do not drink any alcoholic beverage. Staff at the bar was really doing more than what can reasonably be expected.

The food was very enjoyable I must say. Buffet style in both restaurant but good food for most of it. Diverse too. Some people we talked to did not like it too much though. So I guess here too expectations may vary. At least the food was at the level of a 4 stars hotel. We loved the deserts and the bakers did a fantastic job.

Most of the staff is Italian from what we saw. This is also true for the kitchen although they were some French staff too. So We found the way of cooking more typical of Italian restaurants. Italian people are definitely more friendly or say at least more communicative than French or Swiss people. This can be really fun and we definitely enjoyed it.

The Kids club was not open during our short week but we had extensive discussions the team in charge and they were extremely friendly and making sure everything was fine for the opening (the kids club opened the day we left).

We took advantage of the ski lessons. My son is a beginner and we were extremely pleased with the instructor. Very professional and knowledgeable. Club Med has a contract with the Swiss ski school so instructors are from the Swiss ski school and not from the Club Med. This definitely guarantees a high quality. The ski resort is rather easy at least for Corviglia and it's a 10 minutes walk to get to the cable car. Club Med also provides buses and of course the ski pass for the entire resort (but the city buses are not included). If you need an equipment it can be rented from Club Med directly. Very convenient but more expensive (about 25%) than other rental stores. During the ski lessons lunch is provided in a Club Med restaurant. Very convenient too though the food is obviously better in the hotel. Also the restaurant on the slope was not open before 11:30 and I think it closed after 2:30. Maybe this varies during the season.

Club Med is located in St Moritz Bad so it is a 20 to 30 minutes walk to St Moritz center and the train station. A pleasant walk mostly along the lake. It was frozen so we could walk safely on it. Many people were ice skating.

Personally we are convinced that the price paid for is a fantastic deal. If you do not have to rent the equipment and you are happy with what is included there is no extra cost (apart from a CHF 45 fee for outside parking .. probably more for inside ;-). Alcoholic beverages are included as already mentioned but you can go for better quality if you wish and that will cost some extra money.

Possibly the worst experience during our entire stay was the check-out. The organisation is very very deficient to say the least. Tasks are split and some staff will only do specific tasks (e.g. reimburse the CHF 10.-- provisional fee for the ski pass) so you need to take several lines. If you choose to check out at 15:00 which is when new customers do the check you will need to be very very very patient. The check in process is quite complex (not to mention that not everyone speaks good English and that some customers have quite specific expectations) whereas the check out is quite straightforward. So it would seem reasonable to have a specific line for check out. Even - as there are not so many staff member at the reception desk - if a staff member would have to deal with 2 lines, i.e. one for check out (fast) and one for check in. At least my suggestion to the management (hope they read Tripadvisor ;-)

Well one last comment... the reception desk is facing the automatic outside doors. It certainly can get very cold and windy when people are in the line while the doors open constantly. It was very mild when we were there so not a big issue but I can just imagine... ;-)

Hope this review can help you decide whether you want to experience Club Med in St Moritz. We definitely will consider that option next year. Especially for the weeks before Christmas as Club Med Germany is offering the so called "Schnupperpreise", i.e. 4 ou 5 days at 499 Euros per person. Apparently this offer is not available in other countries but you may well use the German site to book... like what we did ;-)
