We arrived in St Moritz in torrential rain, from the Glacier Express. What we failed to realise is that between the end of the ski ing season (end of April) and the beginnning of June, St Moritz is virtually shut!! Many hotels are closed for refurbishment most of the big name shops are also "on holiday" and there were road works right outside the hotel, which is in an elevated position in the middle of the town BUT...what a special hotel this is! Our room, which had a balcony facing the St Moritzsee and the mountains, was very spacious with a small sitting area and a very large balcony. The bed was huge and comfortable and although there was no hospitality tray, you only had to ring down to reception for a tray of free tea or coffee. The bathroom was the jewel in the crown...huge with marble floors and sink unitgs, a big bath and power shower over, and a seperate toilet. Really lovely, good complimentary toiletries. We had a room on the 4th floor and if you took the lift you missed something really special, because on every floor are wonderful antiques, and quirky pieces such as chairs made from antlers. Breakfast was excellent, a very varied buffet, however our one criticism was that we hadnt booked for dinner in the restaurant and we both felt that the maitred' looked down his nose at us and treated us differently from the locals who were obviously regulars. The food was good but very overpriced and we ate elsewhere the next night. The reception staff were very friendly and helpfull and we were transported back to the station in the hotel vehicle at no cost. Taxis are exhorbitant here. I had thought St Moritz would be pretentious (it was!) but this hotel is a gem

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room ofn the 4th floor overlooking the lake

Steffani is a very special hotel which has got style. Rooms are clean and modern, the hotel has been renovated but they still have corners with nice old furniture and things. Rich breakfast. Bus stop is 50 meters from the hotel.
Shops, cinema are very close. The hotel has a nice spa, the pool is big enough, there is hammam and sauna. The staff is helpful and nice.
They have no boot heaters but you can take boots to the room to get them dry.
They serve tea in the afternoon. Bath-robe, slippers, bath-room items are available except for body milk.

Room Tip: Family room is big

If you just want to walk to the ski lift, shopping, or dining in St. Moritz, this is a good choice. It is not as expensive as more famous places in St. Moritz, but you will enjoy you stay and meals here. You will need a taxi to get there from the train station, but once you are there you are set. The staff is very professional and the dining is "Laid back".

You can take a day trip to Lake Como, or travel on one of the most famous trains in the world, The Glacier Express, and spend a night viewing The Matterhorn in Zermatt.

Room Tip: Plan on longer more relaxing meals. You can be dressed casually and families are always welcome.

We were fortunate to be with friends in a group of 14 to celebrate New Years Eve in this restaurant. Although the special Sylvester menu wasn't kosher enough, we were welcome to order from the regular menu.
The table was decorated lovely and Claudio was able to get our order correct with a smile. Fondue Chinois is always an excellent choice but any choice is delicious. We will remember this New Years Eve for a long time.
