Recently stayed here for 4 nights during the crests
. Nice, clean and conveniently located. Friendly and helpful staff. Great bar and lovely bar tender. Restaurant was also quite good. Good place for families or groups of friends. Not as an over the top fancy place but a lovely cozy inn that feels like home.

If I'd read other travellers' reviews of Soldanella, I would have known to ask for a room with a view. Instead, I booked a single room, that being what I needed. Beware! Single room means one at the side with no view. Another thing that left me unimpressed was a brief piece of irritation and a stoush with an arrogant receptionist over a missing booking. When I found my voucher, (No, that's not a voucher! Yes, I know what it looks like!), hey presto, there was the booking, the single room just mentioned. Pretty galling, in view of my travelling companion's fantastic winter view on the top floor.

In its favour, the much disliked room was very clean. The double entrance door blocked out all sounds and smells from the hallways/lift/bar, the bed(s) was comfy, towels soft, shower easy to regulate, heater comfortingly warm, and Oh those crinkly European doonas! Love 'em.

Breakfast was plentiful and nutritious, and staff were kind and helpful. Ditto for the restaurant meals.

Unfortunately, smoking indoors is still tolerated in this hotel. The bar, stairwell and lift were pretty stinky. I didn't detect cigarette smell in the room, as some guests have reported on this website. Maybe it's all aired out now.

A short walk into the village. Watch the traffic at the roundabout - they know their rights(and lefts) in St Moritz.

I didn't ask the significance of the polar bear, still standing in state in the foyer in February 2013.

I agree with other reviewers' positive comments, and accept that my unhappiness about the room was due to my lack of research, and some naivety about international travel. Live and learn, folks!

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room with a view towards the lake, the higher the better. This also gets you aw...

We had a lovely corner room with large windows overlooking this beautiful lake in St Moritz. Staff was friendly and accommodating- had an old style elevator. The included breakfast was good and it was close to the downtown area.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room overlooking the lake

We stayed here for 3 nights; had only planned on staying one. Arrived from Glacier Express and hotel shuttle picked us up from train station. I had a hiking injury and was provided with ice immediately. Room was spacious with a great view of the lake. Breakfast was the best we had on our entire trip with items like lox, good variety of cheeses, fresh homemade yogurt, and strawberries. This is a dog friendly hotel and it was nice to see the furry friends. We used the sauna-steam room-aroma therapy room and were the only ones there. You just need to give the front desk 45 minutes notice so they can turn it on. This was free of charge and a wonderful experience! We received complimentary Piz Nair passes. Would stay here again - quintessential alpine hotel.

Just spent a night at the hotel before the start of our trip on the galcier express to zermatt. It is a three star hotel with grandeur. It does need a bit of updating eg. new carpets, but you feel great as soon as you enter. Beautiful views on the lake and if you are a smoker, god bless you, The bar is a smoking area. We were in a double room. The room was on the third floor and had a beautiful view on the lake. The room was very spacious which is not normal for a 3 star hotel in Switzerland or for that matter Europe. Breakfast was your usual european but very generous

Room Tip: rooms facing the lake are a definite choice.

We also ended up in St Moritz because of booking the Bernina Express
train(see review of BauldelaPiquer), otherwise we probably would not have chosen St Moritz as a place to stay.....too glitzy and without much
architectural character. We called the hotel when we arrived at the train station and they sent a small mini-bus for us....we walked downhill through the town to the station the next day. We were very pleased to have reserved a room over-looking the lake in this fine older hotel. Our room was light and airy, quiet, and was well equipt with reading lights at the bedside, and a good sized bathroom. We are non-smokers and did not notice even a hint of any cigarette smoke thank goodness! (see wsmcbrc review) We enjoyed exploring all the public rooms, which are well maintained and full of character. We had
dinner in a beautiful small dinning room over looking the lake. While the food was not anything special it was served by a polite and caring
staff. The breakfast was huge, and served in a dinning room with cream and pale green walls....a real beauty! We felt as if we had made a really
good choice when we saw the other options available, and highly recommend the Soldanella.

Room Tip: Lakeside if possible!

We ended up in this hotel as a result of booking the "Bernina Express" train trip. We received a great room with a view to the lake, quite charming. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was great -maybe a bit limited in quantity, but delicious. The hotel has some kitsch decoration with old sledges and tons of color carpets, but somehow it fits. Bathroom was renovatd -something that doesn't happen necessarily often in Switzerland, specially in a 3-star hotel. To summarize: if I ever go back to St. Moritz I could definitively go to this hotel.
