We visited St. Moritz out of season and it is indeed totally dead. There is nothing going on (for the shopistas, Prada, Louboutin and all, etc are closed) and few restaurants are open. We were here for 2 hours after a train ride on the Bernina express. We wanted a quick meal and Hauser was the answer: Very friendly waitress who got our order of 2 smoked salmon toasties and 2 glasses of wine as quick as she could which was great. The food was very enjoyable- thought price of 52CHF was not !

Friends, it is tough to find a place to eat in St Moritz in the off season, but we took a recommendation and went to Hausers. The place was not busy which we assumed was a good thing. And though it was nearly empty we got the “Do you have a reservation?” “No.” Which was followEd by what we have come to know as the front man lemon face.

What the heck? No one was there!

So we were shown a table when waiter came by. I believe there are those who wait because they love the atmosphere and meeting people. There are those who wait because they believE it does not take effort.

Our order was taken, including the usual request for water. Then waiter wandered off, checked on a table, cleared a table, wandered about, brought us our beer and wine, so we asked about our water. “Oh, you want water?”

I ordered a pork roast, but was not given a steak knife which I needed as it was dry with crispy edges. The Rosie was bland. My love had gnoche which was a step above paste. We were glad we did not order more.

Why this place is #7 is beyond me.

We visited this restaurant as it was about the only place open in the centre of St Moritz at the time of our visit. We were keen to sample the Engadine cake which had been mentioned in the commentary on the Glacier Express and this restaurant has a Confisserie so we were able to sample both the traditional and chocolate versions of the cake - and also to purchase 2 further slices to take away to eat as my birthday cake the following day.

Nothing special but perfectly fine. Good menu selection and service. Nothing outstanding but nothing bad either.

This place had a friendly atmosphere, and our waiter was terrific.
He was the friendliest person I met in Switzerland. He was full of positive energy, helpful with the menu, gracious in every way.
