I have just returned from a trip to Davos, Skiing with a group of friends.

This was my third visit to Davos and it seems to get better each time that I go.

The Skiing is first class, ideally suited to everyone from beginners to more experienced skiers, the pistes are wide and well maintained and the large area means there is plenty to explore.

The restaurants on the mountains are all excellent with the usual choice of Self Service up to 5 star fine dining possible.

The Cental Sporthotel was a really comfortable place to stay, clean and efficient. This isn't a ridiculous, pompous, fancy Hotel, as some in Davos can be. It's a genuinely well run 4 star Hotel in a superb central location, 1 minute from the Ski Bus stop. The ski buses run frequently so you are only a few minutes away from any of the ski lifts and areas, no effort is required at all !

The room was comfortable and simply furnished with a modern, clean bathroom etc.

The pool area and sauna are both very good.

The staff were superb, incredibly helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble.

The Restaurant deserves special mention. We went Half Board. The dinner each night was of a very high standard with a special theme almost every night.

However, if we had special requests or unusual requirements, they were very happy to oblige and managed to produce superb food every time.

In short, Davos is to be recommended, it's one of the best ski resorts in the world, it's a town, not a village so don't go looking for a quaint alpine atmosphere.

I would recommend the Sporthotel, it's excellent value and very comfortable.

Have a great trip !

Room Tip: I expect all the rooms are good...if you arrive a the weekend, be careful not all the shops are open !

The sport central hotel in Davos is a good choice of accommodation in the always expensive town.
the rooms are small but not to bad , the mattress in the beds is not as comfortable as the american hotels but is ok to sleep , but one thing make all the difference , and that is the staff of the hotel
they are amazing in being nice and very polite , but the portuguese staff.
in the restaurant , the breakfast is very good and the 2 waitress are amazing and make me fill at home .
So if you want to stay in a good hotel , that make you fill at home choose the central sporthotel in Davos

Room Tip: the top floors are best

This was my first visit to Davos and was pleased to find that our hotel was in a central location. Hotel was clean and tidy with nice spacious room but disappointed that our balcony only looked on to the back of other buildings so not conducive to sit out. Unfortunately it was at the front of the building and on one night we were kept await by noise from people partying outside. We did mention this to Reception but it was apparent by the lack of interest in our complaint that this was a common problem. It was very interesting to see the photos and read of the history of the hotel; however very sad that over the years with renovations that it has very characterless exterior.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing away from front of building if your want a quiet room.

We have been to Switzerland many times and enjoyed the standard of Swiss hotels. This was the fifth time we had been to Davos but the first time we had stayed at this hotel.
The hotel is situated right in Davos Platz, just off the main street. It is not an attractive building, being a concrete construction and not having the benefit of any flower displays on the balconies. Davos is a busy town, not a quiet Alpine retreat. It is therefore noisy, with traffic noise close by. Our room was at the rear of the building with a view over the mountains. There was quite a bit of traffic noise and there is a lot of building going on nearby. Also, the various coach trips that visit this hotel, park behind it and we had the noise of them loading and unloading at various times of the day and night. There is a sports arena nearby and the balconies have a clear view of the footbal pitch. There were matches etc., on at every time of the day and night.
The public rooms of this hotel vary. The entrance/reception is ok. The main restaurant is very pleasant, light and airy. The Bundnerstubli is the usual Swiss style small restaurant and the piano bar, which is attached, is small but comfortable. The pianist is quite good but you do get a bit fed up with the same songs every night. The lounge is quite awful, resembling an old peoples home. It really needs a modern facelift. The pool and other facilities, sauna, steam room etc., are very nice.
We had reserved a particular room by email, which had been confirmed by the hotel. It was disappointing that we were not given that room and no real explanation was given. As it was, the room we had was excellent. It was large and well furnished. The bathroom contained a superb shower and nice toiletries. The rooms are a real plus point in this hotel.
The staff in this hotel are very good. We found them friendly and very helpful indeed.
We had breakfast each day in the main restaurant. This was a reasonable buffet, with cereals, fruit, juices, bread, rolls, croissants, yoghurts, cheese and ham and boiled eggs. You can obtain scrambled/fried eggs if you request them. It represented a reasonable start to the day.
This hotel has decided that its major source of income in the summer will be from coach trips. As such, we felt we were treated as second class citizens. We were not allowed to have dinner in the main restaurant, that was reserved solely for coach parties. We ate in the Bundnerstubli. It was pleasant enough but open to the public. At times it was more like a kindergarden, with the accompaniment of noises from electronic games! We even had dogs in the restaurant. Whilst the coach parties had a salad buffet, we did not. The menu at nights was very limited, with only a choice of one main course or vegetarian and the quality was anything but four star. The food in the evenings was a disappointment. The sweets however, were always so well presented, unlike the main courses, which were clearly fixed to a budget.
All in all, we had a good holiday but the hotel was not up to normal four star establishments, of the sort we have previously stayed in at various resorts. If we thought of returning to Davos again, we would not revisit this hotel. There are much better hotels in Davos.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear have views of the mountains but only get morning sun. Rooms at the front look out towards the main street and a small bar, which plays music.
