“Not to be missed!”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

If in the area, this is a must-see. Beautiful buildings, with mountains as a backdrop. Photographs that frame themselves between alleys of cobblestone streets. We had the pleasure of being there around Christmas time, and the understated decorations were absolutely enchanting--coming from the USA where the giant inflatables and over-the-top lighting has taken over, it was nice to have such simplicity again. If shopping is your thing, there were stores and restaurants of all kinds, from very affordable to more high-end. Many shops were closed because of the holiday when we were there, but the area still had a great street-scene, with many people out just walking and enjoying, window-shopping, whatever. Chur's Old Town is my new "happy place"!

“Interesting walk through and old town”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

We stopped over in Chur, the oldest settlement in Switzerland on the way from St Moritz to Lucerne. We heard about Obere Gasse (Old Town) so we decided to take a look. It's not too far from the train station. Exit towards the South and walk up the street you see in a Southerly direction for about 15 minutes. We managed to find luggage lockers in the train station - it's up the escalators on the right near the bus terminal - which helped as we were in transit.

It's one of the less commercialised old towns around and certainly less touristy compared with places like Lucerne. As a result it maintains it's old charm and authenticity. There are plenty of old buildings and streets to keep the history buff happy yet you can find small shops and eateries with reasonably priced offerings.

“Nice area with little shops”
Reviewed December 9, 2012

You can see traditional shops, but also very modern, clothes, but also souvenirs or culty things. Its in the middle of the old part of Chur which is the oldest city of Switzerland
