The hotel is close to the train/bus station in the old town near the shops, restaurants, and bars. It is clean and modern. there is free WIFI and a good breakfast is included. Everybody is very nice, and for Switzerland the price is reasonable. Ask for an upper floor.

Who would have imagined that a/c would be needed in Switzerland! The large windows in the very modern room opened but the noise level from the streets made for a difficult sleep. The hotel is located in a pedestrian only area, but is heavily walked at all hours. The church bells were romantic until about 2 a.m. and some reason seem to be rung in random numbers. The property is immaculate, the modern bathroom spotless (the only face cloths we encountered in 2 weeks of traveling). Our bath had a glass door with colored lighting for a nightlight which was beautiful. The bedding was fantastic. Our room was in the annex and while the elevator brought bags up a floor, stairs still needed to be climbed with bags. We packed lilght so it was not an issue. The hotel is well located, 15 minutes from the train station - 6chf taxi ride. Lots of restaurants are nearby, but be aware that food is very expensive. The hotel bar in the afternoon has very reasonable prices and excellent wines. The staff are helpful, friendly and interested in life in America. One of the staff had been an exchange student and we enjoyed comparing countries. The breakfast is wonderful - we loved having BACON!!! and fried eggs, cooked perfectly. A variety of breads, fruits, yogurts, cereals and the very latest high tech coffee machine one could imagine made for a very pleasant morning. Fill up at breakfast so only one meal needs to be purchased. Credit cards can be used to pay for the room but a small service charge is added. Some hotels want payment in cash.

We stayed here as part of the Great Rail Journey to Switzerland. Martyn the owner met our group at the station and gave us a very warm welcome then took all our suitcases by van the short distance to his hotel. This saved any bottleneck at reception and were quickly delivered to the room.

The hotel was charming and recently refurbished. Our room was very large with an proportinately large flat screen TV. The beds were very comfortable with a slatted frame under the mattress that lifts up like a deck chair to raise the top of the bed.

Breakfast in the delightful, cosy dining room was a joy with everything you could possibly desire on offer. For us the highlights were the trays of delicious bacon, sausages and scrambled egg and Martyn or his wife would fry eggs on a hotplate to your liking. There was even an open bottle of proseco to make Bucks Fizz. Fantastic.

Dinner then was a very disappointing contrast. The first night main course were paraded with great pride by Martyn as a local speciality, 2 whole hams cooked in bread. Very impressive if you like ham which I don't so I gave my slice to my husband and was left with a spoonful of watery potatoes and tasteless boiled veg. The remaining dinner also disappointed.

The hotel was situated in the old part of Chur which was architecturally very interesting and quiet.

The hotel is located in the lovely old town of Chur on a pedestrian area and an easy 10 minute walk (even with suit cases) from the train station. The cathedral and museum are nearby as are restaurants and shops accessed by lovely cobble stone streets which surround the area – the hotel is really in a great spot.

Our room was a good size and well appointed with a lovely view overlooking the town, the bathroom has been superbly renovated and the best bathroom of our 5 week trip - the shower head was fantastic. Both the sleeping room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and very tidy. Breakfast, which was included, was nice with the only exception the scrambled eggs ….. not nice. Wifi was free.

At the ground level there is a comfortable and well stocked bar where you can enjoy a quiet drink or two, the hotel receptionist doubles as the barmaid. Even when she was very busy she always had a smile and a nice word. I don’t understand other reviewers complaining about the staff - we had wonderful service by the owners and their staff. All in all our stay was great and we would definitely stay here again.

Like the previous reviewer we were on a Great Railway Journey and as such it is always more difficult to do a review because most people looking at T/A will be independent travellers wanting to choose somewhere to stay for themselves. As part of a package tour I have few complaints about this hotel. It is in a quiet (pedestrianised) part of the old town and the rooms are OK. I don't know why people grumble about the lack of tea making facilities as this is the continental norm (and there are ways round the problem which do not involve room service!!) We found the pillows too small and wallowy (only 1 per person) and the mattress was very soft too. Not to our personal taste. There was a huge TV but only 1 English channel. Odd when you think the hotel is catering for lots of Great Railway Journey guests. (Not that I want to sit and watch the telly all the time!) There was a good bathroom with glass door which, alarmingly, bashed into the toilet bowl when opened. (We mentioned this to the management). For some reason the lights to the bathroom flashed in different colours - it was like going into a disco.

Downstairs there was a small but attractive bar area and the dining room where breakfast and dinner were taken (dinner on 2 out the 3 nights - see my review of Hotel Stern just down the road). It's difficult to judge the meals because what you get on a package tour is probably different if you were travelling independendly. Suffice to say that the food was OK but no choice for dinner. A reasonable selection at breakfast time although the cooked items were probably best avoided! If the rating system allowed it I would put it between 3 and 4 star but as a package tour hotel it was acceptable.

Stayed her for 3 nights as part of Great Rail Journeys holiday. Pleasant room. Clean but basic. No tea making facilities which I cannot understand as it is such an easy thing to organise. Breakfast OK but evening meals poor in quality and choice.
