Spent two wonderful nights at the Romantik Hotel Stern in Chur Switzerland. Part of a Swiss tourist board pre booked trip so not sure of the real price per room, suspect CHF 200 plus !!
We asked for and got an upgrade to a loft apartment type room-suite for no extra charge....it was my birthday !!
The hotel supplied a picnic to take on our Berina Express journey at CHF 18.00 each and a bottle of swiss white wine at CHF 38 !!!!!!!! Probably would have got better at nearby Co-Op which opens at 8am....train leaves at 08.30'ish
Very good staff although a little confusion over a restaurant booking on our second night which was soon resolved.
Restaurant was excellent, food superb but watch out for wine prices, very expensive. 2 x Two course supper plus pudding on both nights with wine came to CHF 260 for both nights. First night stuck in a very hot crowded corner, second night in main area, a lot better. Very busy with locals, which is good, even they find it expensive and blame their government for propping up the Swiss Franc !!!
Herr Muller the owner-manager attended EVERY table, quite impressive ! The rest of the staff were wonderful as well, lots of smiles and attention, which we like.
I think at these prices wi-fi in the room should be part of the cost, just like the electric lights and A/C and NOT an extra !
12-15 mins walk from Station and just on the edge of the old town, well worth a couple of hours visiting.

Room Tip: Ask for the upgrade to the 'loft room' good large space but slightly restricted view unless...

The hotel is located at very convenient location from the Train station. Walking distance is just 5-7 minutes depends on how you walk.
The reception staff is very friendly, good hospitality and great comfortable feelings.
The hotel did not have wireless internet in the rooms. However, guests are encouraged to use hotel's laptop connected on net for free.
The room size is good and the furniture is excellent.
The only problem was language barrier with kitchen staff as they know very little English and would not know the meanings of croissant as they were run out. However, overall I found it very comfortable hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed at third floor and it was quieter and non noisy. Not sure about the other levels.

Very authentic Swiss Restaurant.

We had a great dinner for a family birthday. Had a special room with very old authentic furniture. Food was excellent and the presentation of the food was amazing. Stuff is very helpful and friendly. The price in the restaurant is a bit higher as other restaurants so not a place we could afford every week.

Did not stay at the hotel but looks great. The restrooms are very clean and modern.

We had a very pleasant stay in this hotel. The room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant was very good. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Our only negative comment would be the problematic wifi, which we had to pay for. It's a bit rich to make guests pay for wifi these days, especially if it's so inconsistent.

We walked from the train station in Chur to the hotel where we had reservations, and found,to our
delight a really beautiful old hotel in a quiet and attractive part of the old town. The service ,from the front desk reception to the wait staff in the dinning room was professional as well as caring. All of the public rooms are lovely and gracious. Our room was small,
(a standard)
but was well designed for comfort. We overlooked the small street in front of the hotel and an old church....which did have a bell that tolled on the hour until midnight....the sound of which we enjoyed. As we arrived rather late in the evening ,and had eaten dinner earlier, we stopped in the (very busy....this is obviously a favorite with local people) dinning room and asked if we could just have dessert and wine. The most delicious apple strudel, chocolate tart, and Reisling appeard with in moments....and with a smile. It was a treat to stay in a hotel with the best of old world charm, a delightful staff who take real pride in what they do, and with a restaurant which serves great desserts (and much more I bet!),and a scrumptious breakfast. Our stay was a treat from the moment we stepped through the front door.

Room Tip: I do not know if the hotel has air conditioning. Our room ,on the 3rd floor two windows at the corn...

This hotel represents Swiss Hospitality at its best. Very personal, warm and traditional.
The food we had was made with local produce, some names of dishes are hard to pronounce and even harder to remember, but well worth the time to write them down. This hotel is perhaps one of the oldest ones, but offers all modern facilities one could wish for. Will go back to enjoy the Grand Tour of the Alpes very soon.

Room Tip: Book early to get a room in the DACHSTOCK (rooms in the roof)!!!

We stayed here for 3 nights in July 2012. We booked a superior room which although as described in the brochure was a little disappointing with only two very small windows which were high up so no real views. It was very hot while we were there which meant the room fan had to be on every night as there was no A/C. Apart from that the Hotel was very good. We dined in every evening on the half board menu and the food was excellent. We found all the staff to be helpful and polite especially in the restaurant. The final highlight of our stay was Mr Muller taking us back to the railway station in his 1933 Buick. Chur is a good city for shopping and a perfect place to start your Bernina or Glacier Express journeys. We also went to Arosa for the day while were there which is another lovely trip.
