We were lucky enough to spend 4 nights / 5 days at this wonderful hotel.
We arrived on a cloudily, rainy afternoon and could not see anything except the road in front of us, so when we finally arrived it was wonderful to be greeted by such welcoming staff. After a tour of the Hotel to get our bearings we were shown to our room, we were given an upgrade and the suite was wonderful. It was large, welcoming and beautifully appointed. The bathroom was amazing and I was so happy to see a large bathtub, the amenities were all Molton Brown and they were such a luxury.
The suite faced south and had a private balcony. There was a large desk, two deep leather armchairs and a little gift waiting as well. The bed was extremely comfortable and we had an amazing nights sleep. The next morning, upon opening the curtains the views were just stunning, we had not seen anything on the way up the previous day, due to the weather. There was a light covering of snow on the mountain just across the valley, something we had not expected at all.
Breakfast each morning was an event, the choices seemed never ending on the buffet, and the options for cooked items, eggs bacon etc. were also available. We did not eat the same thing twice during our stay. We opted for the half board as we did not really want to venture out at night, and again the food choices were varied and most items were local. The service was attentive but discreet and suggestion as to the food were spot on.
The hotel has its own small funicular , which will take guest up the mountain behind the hotel were you can then connect to the public cable car, which was just fun and convenient. The attentiveness of all the staff was what made this a highlight stay, I need some assistance on finding a pharmacy and the concierge organised to get the items I need delivered to the hotel, I didn't even have to leave. Although we did not use the spa facilities, everything looked wonderful and talking to other guests they all seemed very happy with the treatment they had received.
We had planed to use the hotel as a base and venture out and see more of the Swiss countryside, but we actually stay very close to home and didn't go much further than the town of Arosa.( about 1 minute away.) We were vey content to just rest and relax in the hotel after a busy 3 weeks traveling around Switzerland.
On checkout the porter, handed me a small travel pack, with two bottles of water, two apples and some small beauty samples from the spa, and wished us a safe trip home.
For us it is these small personal things that make a holiday, and I would like to thank all the staff at the Tschuggen Grand Hotel, for making the last few days so lovely.
