Lovely hotel but crazy expensive

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Nov 28, 2018
We spent a weekend here in the mountains and this hotel is lovely. Especially the wellness is amazing and very well designed. It gives you a real mountain feel. Of course for skiing and walking the hotel owned ski lift transportation right outside of their door is absolutely amazing! Unfortunately that is about all the great stuff this hotel has to offer. The rooms are not very special and definitely need some work done in terms of interior design. The staff was very friendly but all in all the whole atmosphere did not give me a cosy feel. I would not necessarily recommend this place for families either. Somehow everything feels slightly disconnected. Wish I could give more points but for what you pay what they offer is just not enough.

Dear Prinsliii,

Thank you kindly for having taken the time to write us your valued comments. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed our private mountain railway the Tschuggen Express and the beautiful surroundings and panoramic landscape. Our interior design is from Carlo Rampazzi who favours vivid colours and high quality textiles that combine into a unique style-certainly is interior design always a topic of personal preference.
We would be delighted to welcome you back- we have just opened for our winter season which still lasts until April 7th 2019 and promises plenty of snow and beautiful Tschuggen Moments.
Together with the entire team we look forward to your visit and send
Kind regards from Arosa

Fantastic get away - as always! We spend 4 nights this summer at the Tschuggen for the first time with our kid as well as during summer time - to cut a long story short - we loved it as always and will come back - our 2 and a half year old boy was very welcomed which was important to us and proves that you can combine luxury with kids friendliness

We were lucky enough to spend 4 nights / 5 days at this wonderful hotel.
We arrived on a cloudily, rainy afternoon and could not see anything except the road in front of us, so when we finally arrived it was wonderful to be greeted by such welcoming staff. After a tour of the Hotel to get our bearings we were shown to our room, we were given an upgrade and the suite was wonderful. It was large, welcoming and beautifully appointed. The bathroom was amazing and I was so happy to see a large bathtub, the amenities were all Molton Brown and they were such a luxury.

The suite faced south and had a private balcony. There was a large desk, two deep leather armchairs and a little gift waiting as well. The bed was extremely comfortable and we had an amazing nights sleep. The next morning, upon opening the curtains the views were just stunning, we had not seen anything on the way up the previous day, due to the weather. There was a light covering of snow on the mountain just across the valley, something we had not expected at all.

Breakfast each morning was an event, the choices seemed never ending on the buffet, and the options for cooked items, eggs bacon etc. were also available. We did not eat the same thing twice during our stay. We opted for the half board as we did not really want to venture out at night, and again the food choices were varied and most items were local. The service was attentive but discreet and suggestion as to the food were spot on.

The hotel has its own small funicular , which will take guest up the mountain behind the hotel were you can then connect to the public cable car, which was just fun and convenient. The attentiveness of all the staff was what made this a highlight stay, I need some assistance on finding a pharmacy and the concierge organised to get the items I need delivered to the hotel, I didn't even have to leave. Although we did not use the spa facilities, everything looked wonderful and talking to other guests they all seemed very happy with the treatment they had received.

We had planed to use the hotel as a base and venture out and see more of the Swiss countryside, but we actually stay very close to home and didn't go much further than the town of Arosa.( about 1 minute away.) We were vey content to just rest and relax in the hotel after a busy 3 weeks traveling around Switzerland.

On checkout the porter, handed me a small travel pack, with two bottles of water, two apples and some small beauty samples from the spa, and wished us a safe trip home.
For us it is these small personal things that make a holiday, and I would like to thank all the staff at the Tschuggen Grand Hotel, for making the last few days so lovely.

Room tip: Rooms with a balcony are worth the extra, the views are just beautiful

We stayed here for just 4 nights and it was lovely. A little short of the 5* for us... The details were all there but not on the bigger picture. Firstly the hotel was far too hot which we don't think was their fault. On the top floor it seems like heat rose but clearly during the winter this is advantageous. In the Summer however, this left us with less than good nights sleep. The staff are super friendly and cannot fault the customer service. You are going to need to make use of the all inclusive Arosa card you get on arrival in order to get to the hotel as it is right at the top of the hill. The spa is gorgeous but the prices for treatments are totally ridiculous. In the UK, you could have an entire spa day with treatments and dinner for the price of a massage here. Similarly, the minibar is just crazy. All this meant is the hotel lost business as we didn't eat or drink anything here. The views are incredible but the room was mediocre for the price. We understand how this hotel is so highly reviewed but probably more for the super wealthy.

Best vacation ever! After 12 hours of traveling, the hotel welcomed our family with connecting upgraded mountain view, balcony rooms, fresh fruit, pastries, homemade jam, and drinks. Arosa and Tschuggen Grand Hotel exceeded our expectations -- serenity, majestic views, and unassuming but undeniable pampering. The hotel staff was always professional, gracious and generous. Highlights include the scrumptious breakfast buffet, guided full-moon hike, private mountain railway, a Tesla hotel car, top quality mountain bikes, awe-inspiring hiking, and gorgeous spa with cold and warm pools and saunas. Everyone in our family (including a 12 and 17-year old) was thrilled with the experience. Another plus is how the resort never felt crowded and how unpretentious the place and people are. We cannot wait to return. Thank you to everyone at Tschuggen!

Dear Susan L.

Thank you very much for your wonderful review, it has been a pleasure to have you and your family as our guests this summer. I am pleased to read that you all had a fantastic time and enjoyed your time here in the mountains to its fullest. The full moon hike has been truly spectacular as the sky was clear and stars can be seen very clearly to this time of year. The entire Tschuggen Grand Hotel Team looks forward to welcome you soon again- maybe to our Private Mountain event at the beginning of winter season?
Warm regards from Arosa and all the best for you and your family

This is a fantastic hotel with fantastic wellness facilities and services. Cannot fault it. Everyone made your stay very welcome. Definitely going back there next year with bigger family group and stay much longer than three nights. Recommend at least 4 nights or more.

Dear victim0fcircumstance

Thank you very much for your comments. We are glad to hear that you greatly enjoyed your stay with us. It is a shame that you could not stay longer, you are absolutely right- 3 nights are barely sufficient to take in all the beauty of the region.

We look forward to welcoming you back together with your entire family and send
