After a change of ownership we were glad to find that all the excellent qualities of the Schonegg remained. Sensitively thought out modernisation means new decor, wonderful mattresses, on trend lighting, wi-fi and even a good range of TV channels (if wanted). The bedrooms and balconies have spectacular views of the Jungfrau, in the early morning and evening light the mountain peaks are tinted pink and gold, a sight to lift the heart in thankful appreciation of their beauty.

We had returned to the Schonegg with some concerns about how it would be now but our doubts were entirely unfounded. The resident manager, Philippe, has extensive experience in hotel management and a keen eye for providing quiet, professional yet friendly service. He leads a team of staff who work hard to make their guests' stay the best holiday experience.
Chef Hubert and his team create delicious meals using carefully chosen produce. For example have you ever had homemade beetroot risotto? We hadn't but it was tasty and appetisingly presented and very more-ish.The in- house fresh fruit sorbets were another highlight, indeed every meal was a fine dining experience. ( As a vegetarian the main courses were not appropriate for me but each night a tasty alternative was provided.)

For our stay the weather was rather cold, indeed we walked the Panorama path from Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg in falling snow at te end of June; sections of the path still covered in the white stuff too. We saw some different mountain flowers this time, the early ones including crocus and bright anemones.

We bought and made good use of our Jungfrau railway passes and enjoyed trains, cable cars, buses and lake steamers for a variety of journeys. All to be thoroughly recommended!

If you are looking for a good base in the Bernese Oberland you will not find better than to stay at the Schonegg and will be glad that you made such a good decision.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a great view of the mountains.

Romantik Hotel Schoenegg is a lovely hotel in a fairly traditional style (wooden furniture) which still manages to be distinctive. It´s got a good location, with a beautiful view of Wengen and the Alps, the rooms are fairly large and very comfortable and the service is very good - personal without being intrusive.

The dinner at the hotel restaurant was truly excellent and very modern, worth the visit just on its own merit.

For travellers who´re picky about breakfast, it´s worth mentioning that breakfast at the hotel is continental style.

As far as I could tell all rooms had a balcony. In addition to the hotel restaurant, the hotel also had a kind of traditional library room, small and cosy, where you could sit down and unwind.

This must be the best hotel in Wengen in every respect. Excellent location overlooking the main part of Wengen and the alps as background. All rooms face the Jungfrau mountain. Rooms are large and very comfortable. Internet connection is fast and trouble free. The food is excellent and innovative and so good that we had all our meals at the hotel - something to look forward to the entire day. Special compliments to Chef Hubert Mayer. Best of all - the entire team from the General Manager to the porter provide very personal service. Most impressive is the high visibility of the General Manager - from early morning to late at night - taking care of his guests.
Overall excellent value for money and a special experience. Highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms face the beautiful Jungfrau - so no hidden ''bad rooms'' !

We traveled here during August 2012. This is a lovely hotel. The beds were so comfortable and inviting after a long day hiking. We can't figure out how they get the comforters set up so perfectly. The views were beautiful. The food was amazing, probably the best food we had in Switzerland. The lcoation is perfect. The price point is great as it includes breakfast and a 3 to 4 course dinner which was just as good as some of the finest restaurants in NYC. The management was great- it was under new management and the gentleman running it was very friendly and helpful. We went with our two children who had a great bunk room attached to ours. There was concert right on the property one day, a parade that the kids got to join. Wengen is a lovely spot and this is the place to stay. Rooms are simple in decor but perfectly adequate.

We have just returned from yet another fantastic stay at the Schoenegg. The rooms are simply furnished however this is the only thing that could possibly justify the three star rating. In all other respects this is a beautiful boutique 4 star hotel with 5 star cuisine and service. The traditional bar is frequented by well healed locals during the day for coffees and cakes and is an amazing spot for a post ski refresher or pre-dinner aperitif. The food here is excellent, faultless night after night, and without doubt the best restaurant in Wengen. The kitchen clearly uses the highest quality ingredients and there is an extensive wine cellar. Having skied in Wengen two or three times a season for many years we have tried a number of the hotels and all of the restaurants and nothing comes close to the Schoenegg. Highly recommended.

A cosy boutique hotel in Wengen at the foot of the famed Jungfrau mountain. Stunning views from most of the rooms. A welcoming and dynamic staff and exceptional food prepared by chef Hubert who deserves recognition as an outstanding chef using quality ingrediants, inovation and superb presentation. The service by a young and dynamic staff is also excellent. We look forward to returning next year for the 15th year running.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Jungfrau. Room 20 on the 3rd floor is one of the largest with a great view of...

We stayed in this hotel in September 2012 as part of a hiking trip to Switzerland. It was perfect. Chef Hubert's food was worthy of five stars. I hope that we will return to hike in Wengen and of course we would stay at this wonderful hotel. We agree with all the other reviewers who have loved this hotel.
