“Cheapest but still poor value”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

Went on a Crystal ski package as it provided best deal for HB with single room and easy doorstep access to town and ski lifts. Other large hotels in town are far superior but too expensive (almost double this).
Thought the room amenity wouldn't matter as hardly in it, but it wasn't good - especially the brown decor, tight size and thin walls so you hear everything to the sides. The worst thing though was the general ambience and depressing feel, not helped by being fairly empty in late January and no welcoming bar open late afternoon when you return from ski-ing, no heated boot room, no lifts, basic food and limited choice for dinner.
Some meals were very poor (especially that unheard of fish) but some surprisingly good soups and stews (veal/venison) and salad bar has a good choice of the usual stuff. Drinks as everywhere in town are just too expensive for us Brits - nearly £4 for a small beer. Breakfast was fine, with a nice chioice of cereals, yogurts, fresh fruit, boiled eggs, breads, jams, meats and cheese and decent enough tea/coffee.
The young staff are helpful but not a bundle of fun. However thank goodness it does attract some regular fun lovers trying to holiday on the cheap who made my stay enjoyable nonetheless, especially Dougie and Gail who I'll never forget! (Doe a deer,...!).
If you can afford better certainly go for it, but this is central, clean and bearable if you go open minded not expecting top cuisine and spacious modern rooms.

The price we paid for 2 people was just way to high for this type of establishment. It's more the feel of a back backers the. A hotel. Rooms are clean but you can hear every word your neighbor says next door. The beds are old, the pillow as flat as flat can be. The food in the restaurant is nothing special, the raclete chees had not much flavor. The breakfast buffet was nothing like any other Swiss hotels, after we complained about only one sort of bread they did put out some dark bread as well. Not coming back here, you can do better for the same price.

Don't bother coming here. Their service is awful. The front desk are incompetent (couldn't find our booking, didn't have the right reservation details despite booking online, were not helpful when we wanted to check out early, etc). The rooms are clean but very dated. All the furnishings need updating. You can find much better places in Wengen.

Wengen is super expensive if you want to be in the middle of town. This is a no frill Hotel clean small chalet right in the middle of what one would call downtown. The location is superb and the staff was friendly rooms small but ok. Would go again for sure

Very basic 2* Hotel, breakfast pretty bland and would go to one of the nice bakeries in town.

Overall this hotel is just very typical of the swiss hotel market. Basic, lacks modernisation and is overpriced. Not surprised a lot of hotels are struggling during the recession here you really dont get what you pay for.

A little expensive, but everything in Wengen is. Good location, and beautiful views from our second story room. The room was just okay. The breakfast wasn't great. You have to turn in your room key to get the outside key everytime you leave in the evening. Even with some of these negatives, I wouldn't mind staying here again if I ever visited Wengen. I'd probably give this place 3 1/2 out of 5. It's on the cheaper side but still pricey, as is everything in Switzerland. I LOVED spending time on the balcony though.

An excellent holiday in a "definate" 2 star hotel---All previous comments from others are accurate---If you are more than 6 feet tall the shower would be rather constricted but fine for smaller persons--Bedrooms very cleanly kept and views to die for more than make up for the occasional curtness of the staff .There is a kettle provided in the room but you have to get your own tea /coffee etc from local Co-op ! Food is varied and tasty though service is variable at busy times..Nicely furnished small lounge area with bar and tv etc though one evening slightly spoiled by the staff vacuuming whilst guests still relaxing !
The receptionist was efficient sorting out baggage on departure as we used the fly rail service but very rarely saw reception staff on duty during the rest of the week.
I would recommend this hotel if you wanted a basic room and were not too fussed on its interior etc and were on holiday for the simply wonderful country that is Switzerland

Room Tip: First floor with a balcony as there is no lift
