When I made the booking, I didn't realize that to reach the hotel one must take the cog-wheeled train for a 15 minute ride up the mountain. But once I was there, it was well worth the slight inconvenience. The view is spectacular.

The hotel was typically Swiss, which is a compliment. The staff and facilities were excellent. My room had a balcony that afforded a 180 degree view of the mountains. For dinner I had a three course meal with three choices of dishes. Nicely prepared and served, typical fare of the region.

The only downside of the location was that the afternoon sun beat into the room and with no air-con it was possible to cool the room only by leaving the balcony door open. Which would normally be okay but as a light sleeper, even low noises from other rooms or people walking by bother my sleep. The 'average' person would probably not be affected.

Room Tip: On the side overlooking the town and at the higher levels.

We booked three rooms in Wengener Hof for a weekend hiking trip with my family and had a wonderful stay. My husband and I visited Wengen & Mürren many times and this was the first time we stayed at the Wengener Hof. Normally, we preferred more rustic type of lodging in the mountain but we were pleasantly surprised by this experience with Wengener Hof.

The hotel was located near the beginning part of the town if you hike up from Lauterbrunnen, only a few minutes walk from the train station but it felt like miles away. South facing rooms with balcony have splendid view - you have to see it to believe how beautiful it is. What made our experience exceptional was actually the staff and their service. They were so friendly, before we even checked-in we were greeted with friendly smile and handshakes. The staff took the time to walk us to our rooms, explained everything in the room and service available.

On the last day of our stay (after we checked-out), we went for a final day hike and when we returned from Kleine Scheidegg by train, the hotel staff brought our luggages to the train station so that that we could stay on the same train down to Lauterbrunnen (otherwise we would have to wait for another half an hour for the next train). Now this was world class service.

Room Tip: Room with balcony facing Jungfrau and Lauterbrunnen Valley

We originally booked at Interlaken, but changed to here after reading reviews. So glad we did! If you enjoy spending time outdoors this location is amazing, and beautiful. The hotel was older but elegant, and kept in excellent condition. Beds and food were great, and very friendly service.

We were happy to spend three nights at the Wengener Hof in June 2011. The Hotel offers the town’s best views of the magnificent Jungfrau massif and of the Lauterbrunnen Valley below. The Wengener Hof is located on a quiet, tranquil and sunny side street, yet just a few hundred meters away from Wengen’s main drag, the Dorfstrasse, with its inviting taverns and boutiques. It’s a comfortable ten minute walk to the train station.
The hotel itself is tastefully decorated and runs smoothly like a fine Swiss watch. The breakfast buffet is sumptuous and served in elegant surroundings, and the stuff is courteous and eager to lend a helping hand. The place offered us everything we needed to enjoy a relaxing holiday, and more.
All of the other guests we met appeared to be British, adding to the discreet charm and the understated elegance of the place.

We stayed at the Wengenerhof for a week's skiing from 3rd March 2012. I'm a Trip Advisor addict and research holidays and hotels to the 'nth' degree before booking, so my expectations are high! This is a great hotel: beautiful setting, spacious rooms, excellent food and fantastic service.
We arrived at the hotel after a long journey, were greeted with big smiles and handshakes from the hotel staff and were shown quickly to our room. Although we didn't book a valley facing room, our room's view at the back was fine, looking out to other chalets in the area. The room was very spacious and cosy - slightly dated but spotless and very comfortable with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. The beds were so comfortable - the best we have ever stayed in for a ski trip! The mini bar was well stocked and the shower over the bath had fantastic pressure - just what you need with aching ski limbs! Great hairdryer also supplied.
The food was delicious - 5 courses every evening, cooked to perfection and served by staff who couldn't do enough for you. Don't miss the 'Farmers' Buffet' evening - great traditional Swiss food and a chance to meet the chefs.
The ski room is below the hotel and accessed by a lift. Although the hotel is a just couple of minutes walk to the gondola and the train station, the receptionist organised their little shuttle car to give us a lift every morning - just ask 5 minutes before you want to leave.
As I said to the staff when we left, this is the best ski hotel we've stayed in during 10 years of skiing in Europe - I really can't find anything negative to say! We'd love to return and will also give it a try in the summer as I'm sure that the setting and service would be fantastic then too.
Give this hotel a try - you won't regret it.

Just returned from a week at the Wengener Hof with a party of friends
What a joy. The rooms, food and service are superb.
I had a south facing room with balcony which was well worth the extra cost. Comfortable bed , sofa and easy chair Large wardrobe and storage facilities.Tea/coffee making facilities which is rare in Switzerland.TV, Radio and alarm clock.

Good bathroom with heated towel rail, and a selection of toiletries including daily face cloth.
Breakfast is comprehensive, Boiled or scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage. Cereals, fruit, cheese, ham and delicious bread'
Dinner was waiter service, 4 course and 5 course on the Gala evening, All beautifully cooked and served.
The staff could not do enough and met every need. They served full breakfast at 6am on our leaving day, a welcome change from the packed breakfast.
There are 2 comfortable lounges where drinks are served.
The hotel is about a 5min walk to the station and offer a shuttle service which was very welcome as I sprained my ankle.
All in all, my friends thought the hotel the best we had stayed in and the ski group has been together some 25 years,

A review and rating was written in 2011 - conclusion excellent. If anything the hotel was even better this year for my visit in late February/early March. A new Italian chef, and Italian waiting staff, resulted in the most superb food for my week's stay, coupled with excellent service throughout. Next year's skiing trip, staying at this hotel, is already pencilled in.
