“Old-fashioned charm”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

We've just returned from an enjoyable week's ski holiday at the Falken. We particularly liked the friendly, relaxed atmosphere and the old-fashioned charm of the public areas. We found the location fairly convenient with virtually ski in/ski out possibilities, although it is quite a steep walk up from the station with ski gear. Our South-facing balcony room was a reasonable size, was simply but comfortably furnished and had fabulous views. We were, however, disappointed that our balcony was too small to sit out comfortably. Some rooms on the first floor had larger balconies with comfortable chairs so go for one of these if you want to sit in the sunshine. Our en suite shower/WC was clean and functional but was also very small and would have been difficult to use for anyone of large size or restricted mobility. The food in the restaurant was consistently good and the waitress service was excellent. The bar service was also excellent although we did think the drinks were expensive even by local standards. Overall the Falken met our expectations of a good quality, traditional 3-star hotel at a reasonable price.

Well located within Wengen for access to Manlichen it was the atmosphere of this Hotel that made it such a success. Rooms are not large and not modern, but warm and comfortable. Sound suppression is not brilliant but there was something very "home" like about the place that made our stay so enjoyable. On half board breakfast was excellent, an unlimited buffet, just great before a days skiing and dinners were wholesome and plentiful. There is a long history to this place which adds to its character, which I am sure is part of the reason guests all talked to each other and socialised together, in a manner not found in more "sterile" places. The staff were exceptionally efficient and friendly. One downer was the fact if you didn't buy a drink with dinner you were forced to pay for tap water with your meal. A bit irritating in what was otherwise a great atmosphere.

Room Tip: Later in season get a room with a balcony, the views were great.

Just returned from another week in this unique hotel. We go back year after year for its individuality and charm, great location, friendly staff, comfortable bedroom and public areas and the food is quite acceptable for its 3 star status. Evenings are enhanced by entertainment in the piano bar with impromptu dancing if the mood is right. Great value overall.

If you like your hotels clinical, dull and devoid of life then this is not the place for you. This is an extremely friendly family fun hotel with quirky decor and lots of history. The lobby area is very cozy and when we visited there were jazz pianists playing every night contributing to a buzzing atmosphere. The food is good and the service quick. Would return again.

Just arrived home after one week of skiing holiday, at the Hotel Falken in Wengen, Switzerland. Well, what was the positive about the hotel? Ski in/ski out is good. All right bathroom, enough of hot water.

The first that meet you outside the hotel is the dog's pooh. The lobby is filled with old and wornout chairs and sofaes. Everybody I talked to, thought the furniture was horrible to sit in.

The dining room and the food, was nothing to remember. Again, very worn out chairs. Average or worse food (I had 7 breakfasts and 5 dinneres there).

Rooms: we had a "superior" room. What a laugh!!! Too short beds, very hard matresses etc. etc. The hotel is very old and you hear the persons in the room next to you breathing, walking on the floor etc.

And what's the worse: the total lack of service. So avoid this overpriced hotel!!!!! Try a hotel in Grindelwald insteed (f. ex. The Hotel Spinne), you will reach the same great skiing slopes from Grindelwald - skiing in Wengen and Grindelwald is GREAT!

Had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Falken. The staff was attentive, friendly and had a wealth of local knowledge. The hotel has been owned by the same family for over 110 years and has a rustic, cozy feel. The location is superb, with great views over Wengen and the surrounding valley. The gondola and train are both just a few hundred meters from the hotel, and provide quick access to all the skiing you could ask for. We had a chance to spend a good bit of time with Jenny, who owns the place with her mom. You couldn't ask for a better host (though if you go out with her and her husband be prepared to nurse a good hangover :) Dinner and breakfast are included and were one of the highlights of our stay. I still miss the croissants with nutella. We will definitely be back. Thanks again Jenny !

a charming atmospheric hotel with a palpable sense of history -each time you enter the foyer feels like being transported back in time to a more gracious era. Friendly and attentive staff, cosy bar with sense of community -other guests had been visiting regularly for over 20 years. Rooms warm and comfortable with balconies with great views over the picturesque village. Reasonably priced dinners with good variety and pots of tea available to take up to our room.
The hotel is a little up the hill from the village as was most of the accommodation in Wengen (it's a ski resort)-there is a shuttle van to pick you up on arrival and you can ski in and out from beside the ski storage room, so location is great. If you are an absolute beginner this might be a little difficult on the first day and overall would caution about Wengen in that situation, as access to the beginner runs is a bit tricky.
However Wengen is a beautiful resort and Hotel Falken, one of the most atmospheric and charismatic accommodations that you will find -highly recommend!
