Delightful hotel, full of character set on the hillside within the stunning town of Wengen. The room was small but comfortable with a balcony with stunning views, the only downside was the very small en-suite which was tiny. The hotel is old but charming, a little worn but comfortable. If you want immaculate modern chain hotels then The Falken is not for you. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent with a good selection at breakfast and delicious 4 course dinners. We has a lovely stay and would definitely return but would ask for a room with a bathroom!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a southern view and bathroom

Super location ski in / ski out is always a major plus. A couple of minutes up from the main town with truly magnificent views and an olde world charm.
Staff friendy enough though perhaps a little formal in some areas. Food very poor, breakfast with fruit salad from tins etc, dinners ok but very dull and "bland ?", yet oddly the wine list can only be described as extravagant. It just does not make sense when matched against the food quality.
My room was first rate and cleaning excellent however the duvet was bizarre, a huge great thing at one end suitable for sleeping on the balcony at minus 20 and tapering to nothing at the other, the mattress was "tired" and the combination was not good for sleep!
But what a location ....

Thousands of guests returning to Wengen also return to the Hotel Falken (if they can get a room) as they know they will receive a warm and friendly welcome from Sina Cova, the Proprietor and her family. Sina knows skiing being a former downhill racer, and erstwhile member of the Italian National ski Team. The sumptuous drawing room with its Grand Piano, and resident pianist ( this season it is the renowned American Al Copley) and the elegant sitting room, complement a well stocked bar, run by a resident Welshman and attentive barman named Chris. In addition to returning guests these oak pannelled public rooms are frequented by the local Ancient Brits who live nearby, and count among their number, retired Admirals and famous authors, and those Committee Members of the DHO ( Downhill Only Club) and the visiting members of the Ski Club of Great Britain. Many of the retired Brits who have colonised Wengen have chosen to live in this outpost of the Old Empire, dating back to when British skiers first came here in the 1920s, having persuaded the Swiss engineers to build a cog railway up into the snowfields beneath the Eiger. Wengen is a delightful resort and the Falken is its perfect complement.

Our stay in the Falken brought us back to another era of mountain holidays. The hotel porter met us at the railway station and gave us a ride to the hotel. When we arrived he took care of our bags and put our skis in the ski room. This is an absolutely charming place, with a delightful parlour/sitting room and bar (and yes including a live pianist). Everyone—staff and guests alike—were friendly and warm, making this a perfect place to have a relaxing mountain holiday. The service was excellent and the staff very attentive. Dinner was delicious (especially the Tiramisu), and the breakfast buffet was varied and bountiful. Our room was spotless, and the linen perfectly clean. The room had obviously been renovated recently, but the owners took care to retain the old-world charm of the hotel for example by refurbishing the period furniture. The bathroom was fully functionally, with a very strong shower and plenty of hot water. Some of the carpets are a bit worn, and some parts of the hotel might need a fresh coat of paint, but on the whole the hotel is clean. The hotel has a dedicated ski room with boot warmers, and you can ski out from the hotel in the morning and ski back at the end of the day.

If you are looking for a generic Hilton-style hotel experience, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a hotel with charm, you will love the Falken.
