“a step back in time...........”
Reviewed September 2, 2008

First impressions i'm told, are the most important, so the Belvedere losses out straight away. With very little signage and being located out of view with no street lights i started my stay here non too happy ! Nobody on reception, so we had to hunt somebody down, i already knew that i wouldn't be returning. The room was ok, tired in places, dusty in others. The newly refitted bathroom was nice, although not practical for the elderly or somebody with a fuller figure (the bath was tiny and the taps in the wrong place). We were told to book a room with a balcony so that we could enjoy the views, only the balcony was communal and views were there, but not directly in front, obscured by roof tops. Staff were friendly...ish.......the whole place needs a make over, and not just a lick of paint. If it wasn't for the company, the time spent at the Belvedere would have been well and truly forgotten !

Wengen is a great place to stay. We only stayed for two nights, in the midst of going to a lot of other places, but if I had to do it over again, I would have stayed there for a week or more!

The town is small, but plenty of stuff to do. The hotel is at the far end of the town from the train station, but they do have a service that will pick you up with your bags.

The room was clean and the people very friendly. Breakfast was included and was very good.

My only complaint really isn't something that can be fixed. After full days of hiking and exploring, the hotel is about 200 yards too far up a hill! I might consider staying closer to the center of town if I went again. But this is petty, since it really isn't that big a place.

The views from the balcony are incredible!

Just back from a week in Wengen staying at Belvedere Hotel, it was such a great holiday . The staff were so friendly and did all they could to help with anything you reqd. My daughter aged 3 came down with tonsilitis, they phoned the doctor for me , got the porter to take us to there, they were just great. The waiting staff were efficient as were the cleaners. The rooms were kept spotless all the time.Lovely playroom downstairs for small kids. The village itself was lovely also and kept so clean all the time, even the public toilets at train station were immaculate!Grate transport between the lifts and trains. Cant think of a bad word to say about this holiday, it was great , cant wait to go back.Im starting to save already. Thanks so much to the Belvedere xxxx

We were 2 adults with 3 kids - age 3,7 and 11 years old who stayed for 3 nights.
The good things first: A hotel with lots of charm ( small 40-50 rooms)combined with very friendly and helpful staff both at the reception and at the dining room(lots of patience with the kids). The kids also had a 250 square meter rooms at the first level of the hotel at their disposal, fantastic!
Very good buffet both at breakfast and dinner.
The possibility to drop your skis and skiboots off at the sister hotel close to the trainstation and the other lift that brings you up to the skiing.

Room for improvement: You can hear the neighbour speaking in the other room.
A little bit to many furnitures in the room, it felt like a double room with 4 beds ,instead of a family room.

Conclusion: It wont get any better(friendly and welcoming) for a family with kids staying at a hotel in Switzerland.

Five happy travelers from Sweden

For my wife and I, this was our second visit to this hotel. We first went 13 years earlier for our honeymoon and remember it for its luxurious surroundings and excellent fine dining. This, combined with our love of Swiss Summers, made it seem to be an ideal destination for our first foreign holiday with children (5 & 9).

Our first impressions after 13 years was that the building was a bit more tatty (only slightly so) and the dining had been downgraded to a fairly standard buffet. However, being with children this became a great asset. There was little formality in the hotel and the buffet dining allowed the children to try a small portion of a whole range of unfamiliar foods before deciding what to go for - the staff were extremely accommodating at facilitating this. Another unexpected attraction was a large children's play room with a range of toys and other entertainment suitable for all primary aged children (and younger). My son was especially impressed the the day of our arrival coincided with the arrival of a brand new xBox 360!

The rooms were generally fine, although there are upgrade options which are worth the money. The hotel was also in the middle of a systematic refitting of all the rooms. The bathrooms had already been done and were superb.

Overall we had a fantastic stay and there just cannot be a better location for holidays with young children - both in terms of the hotel and Wengen itself. However, what really sealed the great stay was the fantastic attitude of the staff. They really could not do enough and indulged our every whim. Furthermore, when they found out, whilst talking to the children, that we had stayed there for our honeymoon they provided complementary champagne for us (and special non-alcoholic drinks for the children). We truly loved this place and plan to return in August 2008.

This is a 3 star hotel and it is reflected in the meals particularly. The food is a buffett style and often there was a shortfall and often at breakfast.

Our room, for which we paid extra, had wonderful views but it had a polished floor with thin carpet rugs beside the beds which slipped on the polished floor, - dangerous! The were also small 3" steps into the room and the bathroom, also dangerous.

The main staircase, also the main fire exit, from our room had a door accrss the 4th step up, which impeded progress due to the self closing device on the door. This would not be allowed in England as it would contravene buiding regulations.

The staff, particularly the manager, were very good and most helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.

Out of meal hours, it was sometimes difficult to get food or drink and there was a considerable wait due to lack of staff.

In general a good hotel, the oldest in Wengen, but it could be considerably improved. The views are fantastic, but the hotel, as a hotel, could be better.

We were annoyed that the hotel closed down for decorations two full day before our departure. We had to eat out at sister hotels.
This should not happen and visitors should be warned that this might happen.

We spent two nights, we are scouple with 11 yo daughter. The hotel is charming, staff very friendly and English speaking. We had a south facing view, which is worth the supplement because the view from the balcony is breathtaking. Location is convenient to the train station for the railway up the Jungfrau. Hotel had a porter come to station to bring our luggage up on cart.
We had the dinner and breakfast, solid without being amazing. Very convenient though after day of hiking.
