Just returned from a fantastic stay in the Hotel Victoria-Lauberhorn. Excellent location within a few minutes walk from the railway station. A word of praise to the very professional, efficient and really friendly hotel staff, they made our stay in the hotel a memorable one. While there was little choice in the dinner menu, the food was superb every night. Breakfast was also excellent, multiple choices and all you can eat! We were there for the hiking and the hotel supplied a packed lunch as part of our package - bottle of water, ham/cheese and egg sambo, chocolate bar and a piece of fruit. We didn't use the gym but did use the lovely swimming pool. All in all, this hotel deserves a 5 - star review. If you are ever going to Wengen, this is the place to stay.

Small size rooms, clean , excellent view. Great location for hiking or just a cosy weekend stay. Dinner for halfboard is having little choice and sort of hit or miss. Even the sister Outlet Pasta and more is not complimentry so better go for breakfast which is good but for the price not enough variety. Few warm and freashly cooked items. Would stay again only for the spa and pool which was great but again the opening timings are silly. Closed everyday between 11 to 15 and again closed at 20 in the evening. Mattress too soft and not good air circulation in the room. Could be problem during a warm day. Good area for kids to play in the outside as well inside. Location in front of railstation. Have to leave car at Lauterbrunen so include expensive parking cost in addition.

Room Tip: Facing eiger mountain have good view.

Overall, the hotel was OK, but over-priced for the services provided : the rooms are quite small and don't have fridge or kettle, the wi-fi is interrupted every two minutes...and there are no shutters to the windows (our small rooms had 2 big double-windows, which is nice for the view). The curtains are pale yellow and not efficient at all. You could expect at least double curtains for this kind of rooms. The food was really good, but we had two evenings there, the first one was awful, we stayed there for almost two hours, there is only one menu with three courses, you are supposed to chose before veggi or normal before 12.00 which we did. After waiting for more than 30 minutes without being able to catch the attraction of a waiter (except when he came after 2 minutes when we arrived to take the order for the drinks, which he did and then never brought). We were served the main course, we were a little bit confused about not having any starters, we thought that we may be mis-understood something so we asked the waiter who said that they had forgotten to bring it. We had a 2 year old baby so decided to keep going with our dinner which was already quite long. We thought that asking them to remove the main to bring us the starters would probably be a matter of hours. I signaled the waiter that we would like to have the desert rapidly because our baby was getting tired (at the same time we had to ask also several time to have our drinks). Forget it, we had to wait for another 30 minutes to have it (and again, there was only one kind of desert as it is a set menu!). This said, the next evening, was lovely, the staff was very friendly and efficient...so was it a bad evening the first day, or a good one the second I don't know. I think overall that the hotel is badly understaffed, for example the breakfast is set as a buffet, which is ok. But it really feels that it is not meant to be a self-service, you have to look for the cups in the cupboard, the spoons are hided behind the coffee machine, you have to take the napkins in a drawer, it feels a little bit like a treasure hunt...On a brighter side, the SPA is really nice!

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms with too many windows if you want to sleep in the morning (particularly in summer)

Visitors be warned! If you book via the wrong website or Internet based agent, some of the check-in personnel will try to ask you to pay extra for pool access and wifi. Even though the hotel website and all paper leaflets specifically advertises free pool and wifi access for all hotel guests!
One check-in person was even so bold to say "the price you paid is just too low".
If they want to implement a first and second tier guest level they should at least be so fair to communicate it openly.
Overall the hotel is ok, although the pool fee thing for online bookers borders on a scam.

This was our second visit to Wengen, the first in September 2011 when we stayed at the Hotel Belvedere, which I reviewed at the time.

In June 2013 we booked a 7 night holiday through Thompson/Crystal and we chose the Victoria-Lauberhorn mainly because it provided the Wellness facilities, particularly the swimming pool, which had been favourably reviewed.

Our overall opinion was good but not without some misgivings.

Staff – Generally friendly and helpful, this ranged from Reception to Restaurant and the Spa.

Room – Small north facing room, so not much of a view but no complaints because that is what we booked and expected. However it was very clean and comfortable. Some noise from the extraction system on the outside of the building but nothing serious. No tea or coffee making facilities so a travel kettle is a useful item to take. Good wall mounted flat screen TV but only 3 English speaking channels from the 50 or so available.

Food and Restaurant – Although the restaurant was nice and very clean with mountain views, the evening meal was very disappointing. It consisted of a set starter, followed by a choice of salad or soup, followed by a set main course and finally a set dessert. This meant very little choice apart from a vegetarian main meal (plus kid’s meal) which you had to inform reception you wanted in advance. I am not criticizing the quality or presentation just sheer lack of choice.
The other option was to exchange your Half Board evening meal for a 20CF voucher towards a meal at the adjoining Pasta & More outlet. This could basically buy you one single dish as some were priced at around this mark. Generally the food here was OK but not special and service slow if the place was very busy.
Breakfast at the hotel was good however, with a wide choice of fruits, cereals, breads, jams, cold meats, cheeses, eggs and waffles on a couple of occasions.
The hotel deal we had also included a packed lunch, which was fine and always ready to collect when requested at reception.

The Spa (Wellness Centre) – This was excellent and would not have been out of place in a 5 star hotel. The pool was large, warm and inviting with a ‘lazy river’, water jets and Jacuzzi areas. There was a sauna and steam room and a spiral staircase which lead up to a glass panelled ‘quiet’ conservatory style area with lounger’s to relax on and herbal tea available. The place was kept spotlessly clean.

Other Public Area’s – All kept clean and tidy. The reading material available in the lounge was nearly all German books or magazines, so some more English would have been nice to see. Wi-Fi was free and always available. The download speed was fine and this was a real bonus.

Location – pretty much ideal. It takes less than 60 seconds to reach the train station platform from the Hotel foyer and less than 2 minutes to reach the Mannlichen cable car station. Despite the closeness there are no issues as increased noise etc.

Out and About – The 6 day Jungfrau travel pass is still exceptional value for money, it was £116 as part of the holiday package. It now includes the steamers on the two lakes, so this was a real bonus. It provides such an easy way to travel around the area and of course every train, boat, cable car etc , leaves precisely on time and arrives precisely when it should. Looking forward to the next time.

Our wonderful experience with this hotel started with Robbie (or Ronnie - I can't remember for sure) checking us into our room. He really took his time with us, explained everything about the hotel amenities and everything about the Jungfrau region. He was such a pleasure to talk to, and he really made us feel welcome. Friendly and welcoming front desk staff makes such a huge difference when staying at a hotel. We had another experience in Venice that was exactly opposite of our experience at the Victoria-Lauberhorn. We were very grateful for the way the hotel staff at this place treated us.

We got one of the balcony rooms with a panoramic view. WOW. What an incredible way to wake up in the morning! The balcony definitely made this comfy, cozy room something that we will never forget. The room is quite nice, but you're really here for the view, right? Well -- these rooms have the view! We were fortunate enough to get a corner room with two balconies. Wow! Just amazing!

The rooms are spacious and have nice big closets. Our room had a bed and a couch (which was also another bed). The bathrooms are big and have plenty of counter space. Honestly - as far as non-5-Star hotels go, this hotel is as good as it gets.

We didn't have the opportunity to try the spa - we were too busy exploring. We would just come back to our room at the end of the day and pass out. The breakfast was quite nice, much nicer than I had expected. We definitely recommend that you take advantage of the free breakfast!

The hotel's Pasta & More Restaurant is also really, really wonderful. We had our best Swiss meal at Pasta & More. Unfortunately we only got to have lunch there. The one day we tried to have dinner, they were totally full and couldn't seat us.

We can't recommend this hotel highly enough! Wonderful place, and I think it was probably the best value that we had on our entire 5 day stay in Switzerland!

Room Tip: This is the place! You will be SO HAPPY that you stayed here!
