If you plan a holiday in wonderful Berner Oberland this shoud be yur choice. Wengen is a most quiet town without cars situated on a south-western slope overlooking some of the most famous mountain peaks of the Alps. And I do not think you can get a better view than from the balcony of your room at the hotel Baeren. This small family owned hotel has everything you need: comfortable rooms with splendid view and delicious home-made food. But first of all you feel welcome from the moment of arrival till the moment you leave. The Brunners and their dedicated staff will do anything they can to help you and make you feel at home. The region is easily accessible by different means of public transportation and suitable for hiking on every level. But despite the large number of tourists it is also possible to find a spot that is all your own.

We really enjoyed our honeymoon here, relax on the bacolny with nothing to do, just watch the snow mountains, clouds, flowers and trees around the hotel, it's a quiet and fasinating place.
Moreover, we start missing the food served there...

Functional room, wonderful view, great food, and delightful staff. Outstanding value for money in Switzerland. Wengen is a great base for walking, and we would particularly recommend the Eiger Trail. Most people seem to walk down this, but going up is a better work out and easier on the knees. Start by taking the train to Alpiglen (change at Kleine Scheidegg), then walk to the Eigergletscher station (train back via Kleine Scheidegg).

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in July 2013. The hotel was wonderful! We had a room with a balcony on the second floor with an amazing view towards the Jungfrau and the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The room was very spacious and clean. The room had tea and coffee facilities in the room. The hotel also has a small fridge (like a minibar) on one floor with drinks for purchase - beer, wine, water, sodas, juices. This was really nice to have available after a day out exploring the area. Breakfast was good mix of breads, cheeses, yogurt, cereals, jams, juices, and very strong delicious coffee. We included the half-board dinner, which was a wonderful 4-course meal, different each night. They restaurant also had a good selection of local wines and beers. My wife and I are mostly vegetarian and the staff was very accommodating in adjusting the menu for our dietary concerns. The hotel staff was very helpful with questions, area information, and our other needs.

The hotel was only a few minutes from the train station in a nice, quiet area. We would stay here again and would highly recommend it!

Stayed in Lobhorn Room first week in July, so can't comment on other rooms. Room is spacious with fantastic view. Tea and coffee making facility very welcome and unusual for continental Europe. Staff very pleasant and helpful.
Food was excellent and great value. All breakfast goods were of very high quality, ability to boil your own egg to taste also a plus.
Seems a shame that the hotel will lose a room in order to install a lift - sincerely hope this will add to ratings!

Room Tip: Choose south facing with balcony

Booking was easy and beneficial via direct email correspondence with the hotel. Book well in advance as it's very popular place. Bären is ideally located just 3-5 mins from the railway station, downhill.

Rooms are in 3 floors, the higher the better as the only noise comes from rooms above. Also, ask one with balcony where you have beautiful views of mountains. Room, at least our one #103, was big enough for two adults. Enough place for clothes, plenty of hangers, 3 chairs + 2 more on the balcony. Bed was hard enough and quilts and pillows warm and soft. Flat screen TV had several channels to choose from.

Bathroom was newly renovated and water pressure was good giving nice showers after all day hiking. But air ventilation was terrible, non-existent. Neither was there air condition in the room.

There was no fridge/mini-bar in the room but a common one on 2nd floor where cold drinks could be bought. Had to remind staff to fill it up, though. There was a charge for tap water, 5 CHF per litre, which is ridiculous in a country where water is pouring down from mountains some 20 000 litres per second.

Breakfast was ok, very nice whole grain breads. You have to boil your own eggs with complicated device. The worst thing is there is no cold water to cool them, but at least you get them as stiff/runny as you like. You also have to squeeze your own orange juice, slice cheese and peel fruits but most guests come to Alps for various activities, anyway:-)

Half board deal is well worth taking, with 20 CHF you won't even get hamburger and you will eat different 4-course dinner every night (not on Sunday) at least for a week. The best thing is you probably wouldn't order those courses in restaurant but here you are sort of forced to eat/taste sometimes weird cooking, all eatable, though.

Mostly we enjoyed the excellent service. Everything went smoothly and all staff were extremely helpful with smile on their face. Hotel Bären is not cheap, nor is Switzerland generally, but worth it. Peaceful accommodation, good food and excellent service in beautiful location.

We booked a room at the Baeren because of an experience at the hotel 3 years ago. We were in Wengen with a large group of family and friends and had dinner at Baeren, recommended by a local friend. The food was excellent...my daughter can still recite what she had for dinner that evening. My husband and I had a chance for a quick weekend in Wengen this year and decided to stay near where we wanted to eat :), which meant a room at this hotel. Our room was lovely. Top floor (no lift, so pack light) and a spectacular Lauterbrunnen Valley view from the huge soaking tub. Dinner was fantastic and the view during dinner was lovely. We spent the weekend hiking (even in the miserable weather), eating and soaking in the tub with a bottle of wine. What more could you ask? The hotel was very clean, comfortable and had a nice mix of family, couples and locals. There is a small playroom for children in the basement and a playscape adjacent to the hotel (not sure if it is affiliated or not). The service is welcoming and friendly without being intrusive. Definitely our place to stay in Wengen.

Room Tip: Splurge for the room with the soaking tub and view.
