“Great experience but some must knows!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2013

we stayed at this hotel in March 2013 and overall the experience was great.

The hotel is located right at the bottom of the piste, opposite the train station and ski hire and conveniently next door to a supermarket.

The staff were great and really helpful. They arranged our lift passes for us at no extra cost. The hotel is very clean and rooms are a good size although a little orange (!).

One thing I would definitely recommend is the buffet breakfast inclusive option. Wengen is extremely expensive and the buffet is good and diverse and can easily fill you up until dinner.

Now..the must know (!). While the hotel facilities were as stated, e.g. there was a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi's, what wasn't well advertised is that all the facilities except for the jacuzzi's were in the "nude zone!" - so not very family friendly or good for those who are not comfortable with this.

Also maybe this is a bit picky but the pillows were the thinnest I have ever seen - not a big deal though so don't let this put you off.

Overall though a great hotel and a great resort.

Overall we were very pleased with the hotel - well situated, very good evening meals, good ski storage (with boot warmers, always welcome!) and a nice Spa area. The only reason I didn't award a 5th "star" is because I felt short-changed with regard to a paid-for room upgrade. We were allocated room 427 whilst our friends occupied room 429. Our room was nowhere near as large as theirs, and their balcony had much better views down the valley. In fairness the hotel did offer to swap us into another room, but I chose not to take them up on their offer.
We had a slight issue with the bath, which took an age to fill (very slow running hot tap in the batch and the washbasin) - wer reported these, the basin tap was fixed but the bath remained frustratingly slow to fill.
In conclusion, the Silberhorn is a fine place to stay if visiting the wonderful Swiss Alps, but you might want to consider whether paying for an upgraded room is worth the money. Then again, I should point out that I didn't see what the 'ordinary' rooms were like, so it could be that my (very minor) complaint is based on an unfair comparison.

Room Tip: Our friends did well to be allocated Room 429.

Back down to earth after a weeks holiday at beautiful Wengen. The Silberhorn Hotel was a fantastic place to stay, ideally placed within a minute's walk of the train station. Warm, comfortable rooms - which included tea/coffee making facilities - much appreciated. Lovely deep bath, perfect for soaking tired legs. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Staff were friendly & nothing was too much trouble. Would love to come back.

Our youngest daughter (19) and me were looking for a last minute quick ski break. Ended up on a package break, in the Silberhorn Hotel, Wengen.
The whole hotel experience was superb, the food and service exceptional!!!!

We came back from Switzerland 1 week ago, but i wish we could still be in Wengen and Silberhorn hotel. We had such a great and fab time, we started talking we will for sure come back next year for skiing and in summer to do some walking and hiking.

It took 2.5hours from Geneva airport on coach to Lauterbrunnen and 20minutes on train from Lauterbrunnet to Wengen, but it was worth the journey.

Silberhorn hotel is just across the road from the train station, 1 minute walk.
The check in was fast and easy. It took 5 minutes with waiting. I did ask by email for room on higher floor and in quiet section and we were give a very nice room on 3rd floor with Mannlinchen cable car view.

Room - 2 double beds, sofa, TV, safe, kettle to make hot drinks, nice bathroom with shower and tab, free lotions and shampoos, bathrobes, slippers.
The pillows were very soft, but got extra two pillows the next day after i asked very nice lady at reception.
Rooms cleaned every day, i felt safe to leave all our things around, never had anything missing. I left my watch, rings, camera, phone, even some money on the night stand and it was always there when we came back after the day out or dinner.

The only thing i didn't like was the light in the bathroom, it went off every time i opened the door, even at 3am in the morning and i was suddenly fully awake.

We were half board - breakfast was buffet style, lots of choices. Loved the coffee with the warm milk and the bread was so good.
Dinner - i don't know what to say, 5 course dinner every night, so good. Starter, soup, salate buffet, main course and dessert. All the people in the restaurant were really nice and friendly, speaking many launguages {French, Germany, Italien, English etc.}. They were always helpfull, very chatting and smiling all the time.

Afternoon tea and cakes from 4 to 5pm - so good, really good tea on offer. My boyfriend loved the Morrocan mint tea.

Actually all the people were very helpfull, friendly and smiling.

Spa - very nice place to go and relax after skiing or walking. 2 saunas, jacuzzi - inside and outside and sundeck chairs to relax on with a fantastic view of Lauterbrunnen valley, train station and passing people.

Just a below the hotel is a Coop shop if you need to buy some food. Lots of little shops in the village, nice restaurants {most of them are hotel restaurants}. We didnt use any other restaurant but the one at Silberhorn, so i can't comment.
lots of shops with clothing, but very expensive.

We did couple trips - Jungfraujoch and Schilthorn, we were lucky with the weather, sunny, so we had great views from up there. The trips were worth the money. Jungfraujoch was half price with the ski and walking pass, Schilthorn was half price with the walking pass and free with Area ski pass.

We really liked this hotel and Wengen, we will definitely be back in the future.

The room was fine apart from the lack of light for reading. The bathroom light, however, was very bright and automatic so it woke up the other occupants if someone needed to visit during the night. Food was pretty good considering no choice and staff were very attentive. Free WiFi was good and the spa excellent, it just lacked a pool.

Room Tip: Only basic north facing room paid for but was allocated Room 321 which had good views to the Lauberh...

Planning a return to Wengen to ski, we plumped for the Silberhorn based on the good reviews herein. We have stayed at the Sunstar twice before and been happy, but fancied a change.
First, the good: Location and staff - excellent! We also liked the spa and appreciated having towelling robes and drinks making in the room. Afternoon tea was also enjoyed. The ski room is fine, although more benches would help.
Our allocated room was small with a pokey bathroom and dark (orange walls, dark wood, North facing and ill lit). We viewed two others rooms (one even darker), before moving to one which was bright, well lit and spacious. The hotel was not full so why were we allocated that inferior accommodation in the first place? We had booked through Crystal. Could this be a factor?
Now opinions on food vary widely (something I am keenly aware of as an ex travel agent), so I will simply describe our first two meals. A starter of carpaccio with italian hard cheese shavings. The cheese had gone sweaty and leathery through being prepared too early. The main course was white fish in a sauce. The fish was uncooked and sent back. On day two, the main course was pork. This arrived uncooked and was returned to the kitchen. The replacement dish was still bloody in the centre. There was only one pudding each day and this was creme caramel or a variation on the theme; for example, creme brulee without the "brulee"! As the week progressed, we came to view dinner with some trepidation. The hotel offers the option to eat in the public, a la carte, restaurant once a week and we, for once enjoyed the kind of food (different kitchen, different chef) we had anticipated at the start of the holiday.
This hotel could be so much better and win back the clients who seem to have voted with their feet - the hotel was only half full at the height of the ski season. Here are my recommendations to the owners:
Redecorate rooms to maximise light.
Utilise the area outside the dining room better by making it attractive to linger; somewhere for a pre dinner drink and an after dinner dance perhaps. (The 1980's floral bedroom wallpaper is bizarre)
Employ a chef with pride and passion for his craft.
We will return to Wengen, which we love, but not to the Silberhorn. We will also be more wary of glowing Tipadvisor reports.

Room Tip: Request a bright one. (not with orange walls) A room by the lift reduces the room size.
