This was my first visit to Wengen and the Alpenrose. Now that I'm home, I know that it was just the first of many visits to come. Wengen is an amazing base for outdoor activities, but I'm here to review Alpenrose.

We arrived at the Wengen train station in the early afternoon. We phoned the hotel from the hotel info kiosk, and they dispatched the porter to pick us up. He was there is less than 5 minutes with the electric van to carry us and our luggage to the hotel. On checking in, we were shown our room and the porter brought the luggage up promptly.

We had room 301 with a balcony and amazing north-facing view of the mountains. One night, I had the pleasure of watching as the mountains turned completely pink right before sunset. Then about 3/4 of an hour later, the nearly full moon rose over the mountains. Just breath-taking! The view from our room was well worth the extra dime we spent for it.

The room was on the small side by American standards. The bed was comfortable. The down pillows quite squishy. The decor was very nice and on the traditional side, lots of wood. The bath had all you needed plus a huge vanity cabinet to put your things into. The room was clean, well-kept and quiet. Great water pressure in the bath.

The daily housekeeping service did their job with one exception. Our bathroom amenities were never refilled during the week we stayed. While we never did completely run out of soap or shampoo, we were using it sparingly to make sure we had enough. We did completely run out of kleenex a couple of days before departure. Thankfully, they did replenish the TP!

The restaurant - the staff is wonderful, pleasant and hard-working. The food was lovely. 5-course dinners each night. Always a vegetarian alternative entree. You will not go hungry. Good wine list at decent prices. Friday evening we partook of the traditional fondue.

The hotel has wi-fi. Just head to the lobby, and it works like a charm.

Check-out was smooth. The bill was correct. The proprietess bade us farewell and the porter took us up the hill to the train station.

I miss Wengen and the sounds of the cow/sheep/goat bells already.

We have just returned from a week in the Alpenrose in car free Wengen and it was just superb. Wenegen is an attractive place with lots of lovely hillside walks and the scenery is absoultrly breathtaking. Located high up on the side of the Lauterbrunnen Valley there are fantastic views along the valley, and any walk will take you to an advantage point where you see a different view.
At then end of the valley which is only 4 or 5kms long, the majestic peaks of the Jungfrau, Monch andf the Eiger are there to marvel at. The hotel is in a fabulous location, away from any noise or distraction yet only a few minutes walk into the small town and the station. It has marvellous views from the rooms and the terrace. The hotel is spotlessly clean, with high quality fittings and furniture. The restaurant food was excellent and to a high standard. The buffet breakfast was plentiful. The staff were superbly efficient. All in all an excellent week's stay and we will definitely return to the Alpenrose.

Dont go for a one night stopover though...you need to explore the walks and the valley to fully appreciate the beauty of the place. There is lots to do and see, waterfalls, moutnains, cable cars, small gauge rack railways. Excellent.

What a shame: we booked in for two nights and it commenced raining an hour after arriving and didn't stop for our short stay. But the good news is that there is plenty to do around this picturesque little car-less village.
The Alpin Rose is a delightful warm, friendly and very comfortable hotel. Their rooms are large with an wonderful balconey with a view to die for - waterfalls everywhere. Our twin beds were very comfotable and we had a lovely ensuite with shower. Meals are served in a large dining room where you are allocated a table for the duration of your stay. Service was excellent and the food was very good and a good selection of wines was available. Internet access is available at no charge - just ask at the front desk.
A must do is to drive to the nearby Trummelbackfal Cascades that are located within a mountain - an incredible experience.

My husband and I spent 10 days in Switzerland mid September.
We did a fairly thorough scan of relevant posts on tripadvisor, and found it tough to decide between Mürren and Wengen, but went with Wengen as our base for 4 days (thanks swissfan and others!) It was indeed the right choice.

We stayed at Hotel Alpenrose- very "old world charm" - with viciously loyal treturning visitors who got assigned the best seats in the restaurant :-) We had pleasant views from our room, and the weather Gods deigned to be benevolent for most of our stay.
Apart from the expected touristy haunts like Jungfraujoch, Schilthorn, there are excellent walks in the region (e.g. around Mannheim).

Wengen itself is a reasonably quiet village with a mix of stores ranging from "coop" to cheese and backerei shops. A good escape from the bus tourists in Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen. Highly recommended as a base to explore the region.

Alpenrose surpassed our expectations. We booked a Superior Room and were thrilled with what we were given. Our room had large windows and a well sized balcony overlooking stunning scenery. Everything in the room looked brand new, the walls and the carpet were in pristine condition. The room was a good size, very quiet (which is a high priority with us) and it was immaculately clean. Our rate included half board which we found to be good value. The hotel caters to mainly English and a sprinkling of Americans. We appeared to be the only Australians. There was a very friendly atmosphere in the dining room each evening and it was evident that many people were return visitors, catching up with other holiday makers who return at the same time each year. Hopefully we also will return one day!

This has to be one of the most beautiful spots on earth, and the Alpenrose has a view of all of it. The owners, Herr and Frau von Allman, were the epitome of refined Swiss courtesy and helpfulness. My husband is Swiss, so I think the von Allmens were delighted to have a fellow countryman amidst all of the American and English guests. This hotel is cozy in every respect. There are lots of areas to meet and chat with other guests, firelit parlors and a late evening bar, and a comfortable internet room. The guest rooms themselves are very "country Swiss" without being too kitschy. There was a lot of wood used in the paneling and other decor and it made the room feel quite warm. The rooms are also quite spacious. Charming French doors led to balconies with a view of the Jungfrau. We had American plan (half board) and the cuisine was quite varied, including fondue and raclette along with more standard fare. There were also a lot of choices in salad bar, desserts and breakfast fare. You also could order fried eggs and bacon which is very unusual in Switzerland. The entire staff was quite courteous, prompt and attentive. There are lots of beautiful inns in Wengen, but we'll always go back to this one.

From September 3 to 18, 2008, I stayed at the Hotel Alpenrose, Wengen. It is a real jewel. Mr. and Mrs. Paul von Allmen own and operate their hotel with typical Swiss efficiency, helpfulness, and friendliness. They and their staff made my stay at the Alpenrose a real pleasure.
The hotel itself is located at a very quiet location, a cardiovascular-system-invigorating 4-5 minute walk from the Wengen train station. It provides some beautiful views of the Lauterbrunnen Valley and the surrounding mountains.
The hotel is quiet and very clean. My own room and bathroom were held clean and spotless during my entire stay. My balcony offered delightful mountain views, as well as easy chairs for relaxation.
A few different newspapers were available daily downstairs for everybody to read. There are several wide-open rooms with easy chairs and sofas, inviting one to do so. Good lighting is also provided.
The crown of the hotel's operation, for me, was the food served. I had opted for the half-pension package, with breakfast and dinner to be taken at the hotel. I can only say that I thoroughly enjoyed the food served during my two-week stay at the Alpenrose. Some of the dinner-courses were even exquisite! My compliments to the chef!
All in all, I wouldn't hesitate to return to the Hotel Alpenrose in Wengen. It provides excellent value for the money spent. I highly recommend it to anybody considering a stay there of any length's duration. It is truly a great place to stay.
Sincerely,
Kurt Schuppisser
