This is how you do service. Well, it is by my standards. It is rare that the the hurly burly of the family's trip home fails to deaden a sense of regret at leaving but I didn't want to leave the Alpenrose.
My wife's family have been coming here for years and I went with them 20 years ago - I did not remember it as being as lovely and welcoming as this. The Von Allmen family fronts a first class team of people who all seem pleased to see you.
The journey out was twice delayed and we arrived at midnight. We'd phoned ahead and without batting an eyelid they picked us up from the station and sat us down in front of a fabulous cold spread. This set the tone for our stay.
The Alpenrose is not cheap but better than that, provides superb value. The rooms are a bit small but are clean and comfortable. The food is excellent and very plentiful - don't hit the post-skiing cakes too hard as you'll need the room.
We'll be back there as soon as we can.

Room Tip: The reception rooms are so nice you won't want to spend time in your room but if you pay the pre...

My wife and kids really like the family atmosphere given by all staff in the hotel. They are very friendly and helpful. Most of them are Portuguese but speaks fluent English. The food is excellent and not so expensive. It's one of the oldest hotel in the area but it is properly maintained. Our room has excellent views and the location is superb. Very classy place and traditional.

My first visit to Switzerland. "you will love it", said my wife. Especially Wengen.

She was right.... on both counts.

But neither of us expected the Alpenrose to be quite so superb ;-)

It's hard to write a review when every superlative has already been used. And without sounding overly gushing. that's why it's taken so long!

Food. Accomodation. Superb.

Location.... just a little out of the village centre, but that wasn't a problem.

Staff & owners........ why can't they run every hotel in the world!

Wonderful Wonderful. WONDERFUL.

Wish we could go back sooner than soon......

Buffet breakfast plus a 5 course meal every night - was delicious (especially the meat fondu)! Very cosy and the owners and staff are so friendly (we loved the waiter Ricardo!). A little further away from the town centre but not that bad. Great for going with the family, but not very sociable for teens.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the mountain have a balcony with great views and a lovely place to sit in the sun a...

My daughter and I stayed at the Alpenrose last June for 5 nights. We arrived from Paris via train and should not have attempted to walk to the hotel with all our luggage. I think they will pick you up from the station, but we were excited to get out and walk. We just didn't realize it's not that close to the station when you're dragging all your luggage with you. Definitely call them for a pick-up.
We had a lovely room on the second floor with a balcony looking out to the stunning mountains.
Everything was extremely clean, and well appointed.
The food was very good and we really enjoyed the dessert buffet one evening. The waiters were especially wonderful- it was fun getting to know them over the course of our stay.
One night my daughter and I were late for dinner, as we had lost our way on the hike home and ended up in a bit of a rainstorm. We thought we would be out of luck for dinner, but they were waiting for us and had our table ready with a very welcome, delicious hot dinner. It was like a warm hug. We really felt like they cared about us and we will never forget it.

This was a fantastic hotel for the cost, with the staff incredibly friendly and helpful. Location is OK and there is a good short shuttle service to the centre. The meals were lovely and I would certainly highly recommend the hotel.

OK, I should have written this review a year ago when we stayed at the Alpenrose. But you know, you get back from vacation and get busy catching up. Today, we are planning another trip to Wengen for this July and we will be staying at the Alpenrose. It really is a Great choice, with a wonderful staff, owners, food, accommodations and perhaps the best views in Wengen. The views from every hotel in Wengen are great, but at the Alpenrose you get the mountains, the valley, the waterfalls across the valley and you are overlooking small Swiss houses with lovely fields, not the entire village or a big hotel. The staff could not have been more professional or friendly. I felt like we were guests! In thinking about returning we really can't wait! If you choose the Alpenrose, it will be a Great choice!

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the upper floor facing south
