“Wonderful welcome and they've thought of everything”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2014

We stayed here eleven years ago and always said we would like to go back, so here we were. All the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and special. The reception staff are wonderful, the dining room staff very attentive and helpful & the meals were of a very high standard. Our room was very comfortable (no 107) & kept fabulously clean; the porter was very efficient too on out last morning there as we had a very early start. The welcome from Oliver was second to none - he's quite a character and he & his team have certainly thought of everything. Forgotten your walking pole? Please use one of ours. Need to check the weight of your case? There is a scale in the reception area. Need a different pillow? I've never seen such a choice offered.
Location is everything, and it is certainly central and very convenient. I've not seen any other reference to the church clock in other reviews, but that was my only 'grouse'. We were very fortunate in that the weather was very warm & at night I like to have fresh air in the room. Only problem was that the church clock is only about 200 yards away and chimes all through the night, not only the hours, but two 'dongs' at each half hour too. I kid you not, I counted every one through the first two nights and was very tired. I wonder that the local people don't ask for it to be muffled during the wee, small hours? So, our choice was to either be kept awake by the bells, or be too hot with the windows shut. Maybe a room on the other side of the hotel would be quieter if you think that might bother you? Don't let it put you off though...... the hotel was full of repeat visitors. That always speaks for itself doesn't it?

Room Tip: Valley rooms have fabulous views, but do be aware of the noise of the church bells,

Thank you for your response. You are right, I was also annoyed by the church bells in the beginning, but you get used to it very quickly. I am really sorry about it, but it is not in our hands to change it. You stayed at our hotel at an unusal hot period, next time please talk to me, we could provide a fan in your room and thinner blankets. Or one night we go together to the church and cut the ropes of the bells ;-)...Anyway, we will find a solution!

We came by for the fourth time in 15 years :-)
The hotel is family friendly, exceptional good staff who give you that sort of family feeling.Facilities are up te date, wifi perfect, without any doubt the nicest swimming pool in the alps (with mountain view, imagine) Rooms are of course tidy and comfortable but not that roomy. Remember taking your room at the back side ( talseite) because of the -silent but- busy street .Wengen has become noisier in the years i have to confess. The railway station has been growing into a logistic center for the building activities. But that doesn't change the appraisal of this nice hotel.

We stayed at hotel for two nights in June 2014.
We were welcomed by hotel manager with short message about hotels's facilities.Complimentary local drink also was also provided.
Room was clean, pretty big with mountain view. Wengen is small town , so location was 5 min walk from train station.
Buffer breakfast was testy and contained
lot of different items.
Before departure hotel management suggested breakfast box,if we depart early morning- we don't need it , but it was nice.
Also, hotel manager met us on check out time and asked for the review
I think it is excellent value for the money.

I stayed at the Sunstar this March with my mum and we had the most superb time. The staff are wonderful and our room was very comfortable (complete with menu of different pillows to suit your tastes and free mini bar). The swimming pool and sauna are exceptional- you can have a proper swim not just a dip in a shallow little pool. We have just booked for next March and will be bringing other siblings and partners- word has got around and now everyone wants to join in. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who has the opportunity to go. We have been to Wengen many times- simply beautiful with an excellent atmosphere, lovely ski instructors (use Privat and the marvellous Pierre) and great skiing.

Came to this place after being at the Victoria Lauberhorn last year. Once again same reasons for location, very close to cable car and train which is essential in Wengen, close to ski school for seven year old daughter but this time aiming for better food. (It's also next to the place used by Crystal and Neillson for ski hire).

Yes, food a vast improvement. Kids get their own selection or can enjoy the starter buffet etc. Whilst I am proud of my daughter's varied taste, as with 90% of kids if there are chips nuggets pasta and sausages etc. around I am not going to get her interested in braised venison in red wine sauce with pureed whatever. Breakfast good apart from two things. PLEASE can someone buy the Swiss some proper sausages and secondly persuade them that not everything needs cheese on it (like breakfast tomatoes).

Like every hotel of this nature, you can tell what is being used up from last night or the night before by what the starter and soup is, but that's catering in chains all over the world. The food was sufficiently varied to ensure I actually had a choice every night of a seven night stay rather than being bored. It was also well cooked and presented. Brilliant cheese board, but it is Switzerland. Good wine list, but as ever this is Switzerland and in the mountains and even their own wine is expensive compared with UK. So, food good, but expensive drinks.

Room ok and I was able to borrow enough adaptors to make every phone i pad and pod charge and work. Thank you reception staff. As on a skiing holiday you are hardly in the room it doesn't matter a great deal, but I was happy enough. Wife just wants enough places to hang things and hide things and there were. Bath and shower fine. No moans, always hot water.

Little niggles. Pool isn't as good as Victoria Lauberhorn and the Swiss (Sunstar) version of 29 degrees C is a different version to mine. At least there was no Dragon there to upset things. Kids room is tiny and not really sufficient if there are a load of kids. Its a case of put on a dvd and stick them in there and hope for the best. Lifts are tiny and annoying.

Manager is a bit full on with his welcome and intro to the staff but some would like that. Entertainment is a bloke playing a keyboard with popular favourites in the evening, but we are here to ski and its not Tenerife/Benidorm and I'm not looking for a show in the evening.

So, low key, warm, welcoming, efficient, what it says on the tin, fine by me. I'd stay again but would like the pool warmer.

This is the 5th time we have stayed at The Sunstar in Wengen - and it never disappoints. We have brought various friends here over the years and it is quite simply the best place to stay in Wengen bar none. The location is second to none with being a 2 minute walk from the cable car up, or a 5 minute walk to the train station. The food is plentiful, of a really high quality, and more than enough for the hungriest traveller. The rooms are great - spacious and clean. And best of all - after a days full skiing the pool and spa really top it off. The hosts Oliver and Katya - and all their team - really go that extra mile. Always. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Our second stay at the Sunstar was even better than the first, even though my wife broke her leg whilst walking on our first day. We couldn't have asked for more from all the staff who were most attentive and helpful to her in every way. (And the weekly dessert buffet is still superb!)
