Eiger Guesthouse
Ranked #2 of 11 Hotels in Murren
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 19, 2010

Just returned from a two week vacation in Europe that started with a 5 night stay in Murren. The Eiger Guesthouse was the perfect choice and we could not have been happier with the rooms and restaurant. The real gem of this hotel however is the incredible staff. Ema made sure that all of our needs were met and made us feel like family, Paul kept us entertained with his great sense of humor and recommendations for excursions and meals. We finished each day with a fine Porto at the bar with. The worst part of our stay was having to say goodbye. I don't know when, but we will definitely return to Murren and the Eiger Guesthouse!

As almost everyone arrives by cable car and train in Murren, the location directly across from the station is very handy. There is a ramp on the valley side at the station so bags do not have to be taken up the steps. The entrance to the guest house is through the bar, not the easiest to negotiate with bags when the bar is busy. Rooms are accessed by a narrow staircase but have recently been renovated and are clean and comfortable. Most look out to the mountains, Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau, absolutely 'in your face', on the other side of the narrow Lauterbrunnen valley. Our room and bathroom were very spacious with a balcony where we could sit to admire the spectacular view. Breakfast was of a good standard and the restaurant meals excellent. The waiters were helpful, fun and gave lots of good sightseeing tips. Our stay was for 6 nights and mostly enjoyable, however our room was above the bar and the patrons very noisy, sometimes late into the night. With hot weather, closing the windows was not an option so sleep was difficult. I could not recommend staying here if you want quiet nights.

Just returned from a fantastic 7 night stay at the Eiger Guest House. The EGH is located close to the BLM station in stunning Murren with breathtaking views of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountains. The rooms are spotless, beds comfortable and rates are good, The food in the restaurant is great and the inclusive breakfast fresh and plentiful. The staff at the EGH lead by Ema are always on hand to help and offer advice re local walks, cable cars etc. The bar is a nice place to hang out for a swiss beer after a hard day walking with Paul and Robert to keep you entertained. All in all a real gem!!!!

As the other reviewers have said it is worth every penny. We stayed 5 nights in superior rooms (1&6) i will always remember sleeping with the windows open and hearing the first trains of the morning creeping out of the station. Yes there are steep steps up to the rooms but there are also steps in the train station. The restaurant was also perfect even offering items for picky eaters.

We were so pleased with our recent 5-night stay at the Eiger Guesthouse! Our room (Room 11) was so cozy with a sloped ceiling over the bed (see photo). But don't be deceived...while the room was small, it was just what we wanted: a nice clean room where we could wind down, get cleaned up, and get a good night's sleep after a day of hiking and exploring the gorgeous Berner Oberland. It was nice to sleep with the window open to enjoy the crisp mountain air. The hotel was recently renovated, and this was evident with our room's updated bathroom. We were very impressed by the friendly staff. Manager Robert gave helpful hiking tips and was friendly throughout our stay. Emma also shared good information and made our stay enjoyable. There was no elevator, but the narrow, winding staircase was charming. The bar was a really fun place to enjoy the World Cup games on the big screen. The hotel's restaurant offered a nice variety of burgers as well as Italian fare. Breakfast was a delight each morning and included fresh bread, cheese, yogurt, granola, and really good, fresh coffee. Murren is the place to stay if you are visiting the Berner Oberland because of its central location and easy access to a variety of lifts and hikes. The Eiger Guesthouse hasa nice location literally across the street from the train station. We really enjoyed our stay!

Service was superior, views were spectacular. The room was clean and adequate. Only minus was the steps up to the room instead of elevator and the halway of the stairway needs paint. This is a place that provides the basics in housing with caring staff in an extraordinary location.
