“Nice but not amazing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2009

I stayed here based on Tripadvisor reviews for 6 nights in summer. Its quite a nice little place, the staff are friendly and speak perfect English. The room views are amazing but they would be from almost any hotel in Murren I would suspect because Murren just has the most amazing views. There is internet access but it is cable/wired only which is not so good for iphones/PDAs. Breakfast is ok, but lacking in fruit or much variety. Price wise it is certainly good value. I certainly think Murren is a good place to stay but personally I would probably stay somewhere else were I to visit again though I am not sure where as the most impressive looking place (Alpin palace) has somewhat mediocre tripadvisor reviews.

My husband and I spent two nights at the Eiger Guesthouse at the end of a ten day hiking tour in Switzerland. Of all the places we stayed this was the best in terms of location, service and value. We are seasoned hikers (and skiiers) but have reached an age when we like a bit of comfort at the end of the day but in an informal atmosphere. The Eiger Guesthouse provides this to perfection. A warm, family type welcome (Paul was on duty when we arrived), a newly renovated and comfortable room with the best shower of our trip and a refreshing cup of tea on the terrace overlooking the Eiger, the Moench and the Jungfrau. Alan (the owner) gave us good advice as to where we could enjoy a short hike before dinner.
The food was excellent: simple breakfast buffet with good bread, cereals, joghurt, cheeses and ham. We opted for half board and the three course dinners were very good.
The location is perfect for the station, the hiking trails and the cable cars,
As it was summer we were outside on the terrace much of the time but the communal areas inside, including games room, would be great in winter. Alan has Sky Sports in the games room much to my husband's relief as he was able to watch Celtic v Arsenal!!!
Internet available at two terminals in the common area but our room had a cable connection, so I was able to Skype in peace. Other plus points were decent reading lights over the beds, efficient hairdryer and good range of programmes on the flat screen tv.
To top it off, Alan and his staff know and love the mountains and can provide all the inside information you need to get the most out of the area. We had a great time and it looked like the other guests did too.

This is an older property whose rooms are being renovated. We stayed in one of the older rooms (#12 on the 3rd floor) that had a wonderful view of the Eiger and Monch. One issue is that we had a shared bathroom and there was noisy whenever anyone left their room at night to use the bathroom.

The climb to the 3rd floor carrying heavy luggage is a bit of a challenge as the stairs are narrow (no elevator).

The meals in the restaurant were good as was the breakfast which is included. Also included was a guest pass to use the nice pool at the Sprotzentrum.

The hotel is conveniently located beside the BLM train station.

The owner was very accommodating as he stayed up until we arrived after midnight.

In summary, we got good value for our money and would stay there again.

Thomas

The Eiger Guesthouse isn't grand but it provides good quality accommodation and meals at a reasonable price. We stayed in one of the upgraded rooms with a balcony and wonderful view over to the Eiger/Monch/Jungfrau. The room was completely satisfactory with a comfortable bed and a shower room with a good powerful shower.
Breakfasts were enjoyable - Orange juice, cereals, yoghurt, cheese, ham and salami, excellent bread and croissants.
We opted for a dinner, bed and breakfast arrangement and enjoyed our three course dinners each night. Nothing spectacular, but good food, nicely presented. We'd recommend the draught Swiss beer (slightly cloudy) and the wines from Veronique's relatives' vineyard - available by the jug.
The owners and staff were helpful and friendly. Our only criticisms were that the staircase area could do with redecoration (there is no lift and the staircase is steep) and that some of the bath towels were a bit work (though very clean). Otherwise, the guesthouse was clean, comfortable and very well worth visiting.

Charming place to stay in Murren – for skiing and travel.
Next to the train station with great view to Eiger and Jungfrau.
The Scottish guy (the owner) says always the truth – nice and helpful person.

Our family loved Muerren and the Eiger Guesthouse! The hotel is directly across from the petite Muerren train station. As mentioned by others, the views from Muerren are incredible. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. We had 2 rooms (one with 2 single beds, one with a bunk bed set) across the hall from each other; sinks were in room with shower and WC down the hall. Rooms were small, but we only used them for sleeping. Breakfast was simple (bread, croissants, meat, fruit); lunch and dinners were well-priced and good. We went swimming daily at the Sportzentrum (hotel provides guest pass). This hotel felt like a creaky, cozy inn and we all loved that it was casual, friendly and comfortable.

We stayed for one week at the Eiger Guesthouse and had a fantastic time. It's the perfect place to come back to after a day's exploring in the Alps. The staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming and create a relaxed atmosphere. I'm sure anyone would enjoy their stay here. The breakfast and dinners were very nice and the rooms were very clean and comfortable with incredible views. This hotel has bags of charm and we would definitely come back again!
