We visited the Schilthorn summit in July 2013. It was certainly a memorable visit. The cable car ride was enjoyable, very silent and smooth except for the understandable and minor bumps when the car goes over the pylons. The James Bond audio clip at the starting of the ride from Mürren attracted a few giggles. As the car took off, there were fabulous views of lush valleys and gorgeous mountain tops in the distance. There is an intermediate stop at Birg. Despite being sunny in Mürren, there were clouds rolling in rapidly at the summit.

It is possible to step outside and go all around, which we did. Needless to say the views were absolutely gorgeous. Additionally at the top, there is a revolving restaurant where we had a decent lunch. The James Bond museum was certainly interesting. There were a lot of posters of all the Bond actors, a red phone that plays an audio clip of Bond receiving his assignment and a chopper simulator (it is the chassis of an actual chopper!). There was also a theater playing clips from the movie shot at Piz Gloria. And there were numerous interactive displays of Bond movies.

In summary, definitely worth a visit!

We visited Schilthorn in early May saying in Lauterbrunnen which is a short local bus ride to the cable car out of the valley to Gimmelwald (Murren.) Your Swiss pass covers the local bus and the cable car to Murren. At that point you check at the ticket office to see the monitor and see the conditions at the top of the mountain at Schilthorn as it may be obscured and you don't want to spend the money to only see the building.. The valley has 72 waterfalls and you see some of these as you climb to Murren. You may also see kite flyers near Murren.
Two cable cars later, you see Schilthorn as you exit the clouds. At approx. 3000 metres altitude, the views are spectacular and you can feel you are reliving the James Bond movie- On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
There is a Panorama restaurant inside which revolves and they were working on an exhibit to feature James Bond being filmed here. You can see Jungfrau, Eiger and other mountains form here. In summer, you can take a hike on marked trails .

One more foo the bucket list!

This was my second time in the area and I went up Jungfrau last time.

If you are looking for an amazing view, some souvenirs this is the mountain for you. The trip up by cable car gives a far better view then the railway, and the town halfway up has a great grocery store for budget travel.

At half the cost of Jungfrau this is the much better day trip if you have touched snow before.

We drove to Lauterbrunnen, took a cable car the cable car to Grutschalp, then a train to Murren. We spent some time strolling through the picturesque Murren, admiring the views before finally taking the cable car to the top. It took about an hour to get to the top.

It was cloudy and not much could be seen, but loved the fresh alpine air and the summer chill. We visited the James Bond gallery and theatre - was a fun experience, bond enthusiasts will agree!

It was lunch time, we had a delightful experience at the solar powered revolving restaurant Piz Gloria.

Overall, a great experience - much less crowded compared to Jungfrau. Take your time, walk through Murren, don't be in a hurry to reach the top. We even saw some deers in the valley below :)
