We visited Piz Gloria in the summer time many years ago and always wanted to revisit in the winter. This year we stayed in Interlaken and took the opportunity after checking that the weather would be clear. The route we took on the journey to the top was train from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen. A short walk under the road to the Cable Car Station to Grutschalp, accompanied by what seemed like a thousand skiers and skis, where a single carriage train awaited us. The journey to Murren was extremely picturesque and well worth the price of the trip. At Murren there was a fifteen minute walk through the village to the Schilthornbahn for the trip to Piz Gloiria. It was here that we encountered more skiers, if that was possible, than on the journey up to Grutschalp! (Forget being British and push and shove like the rest otherwise you will be left behind). Some of the skiers got off at Birg but most continued to Piz Gloria. The only saving grace was that very few came into the revolving restaurant. We had a light lunch of soup and bread which was accompanied by a bottle of water and a beer. The cost of SF 33.20 was in my opinion very reasonable. Everyone knows that the restaurant revolves but remember do not put anything on the window sill, as you will not see it again (if at all) for the next 45 minutes! The view on a clear winters day is spectacular and well worth the jostling and pushing and shoving. For the journey down we took the cable car down to Murren then to avoid the walk, the cable car to Stechelberg, where we caught the bus back to Lauterbrunnen (these run every half hour. I think that I enjoyed this winter trip to that in the summer!

My family enjoyed the "James Bond breakfast" at Piz Gloria's rotating restaurant. The cable car ride up was exhilirating and the clear morning views of the surrounding mountains was breath-taking -- a real rival to Jungfraujoch. The breakfast itself was also delicious and ample. A big hit with the kids.

The view from the top is breathtaking. When you reach the top, you are higher than many of the surrounding mountain peaks, which makes you feel like you are on the top of the world. Its surreal. There is a revolving restaurant too at the top! Do inquire about discounts for the cable car journey at your hotel reception.

The aspect we liked the most in this Schilthorn experience was the fact that we took 4 or 5 (don't recall exactly) different cable cars along the journey to the top - the restaurant Piz Cloria.
In every change, we could stroll trough the intermediate places, places like Murren - incredible peaceful.
It's better to stop in the way down to arrive quickly when you are going up, so you don't risk to have some fast weather change at the top.
Arriving at the top, you get the best possible views of the classic Swiss alps.
In my opinion, it's a much better view than you get from the Jungfrau train station - let's say it's more "dramatic". And it's less expensive as well. We took the early ticket along with the breakfast - we all love the experience.

Be sure to check the forecast to choose the best day/hour to go. It's pointless to move up when it's cloudy

I wanted to go early in the AM before it got crowded. It was overcast in Murren, but the station for the cable car had closed circuit TV showing the top was clear and sunny,so I bought a ticket.Since it was overcast in Murren, there were only four of us on the cable car going up.As you started to the top,it was so socked in that you couldn't see anything.About half way to the top,the cable car broke out of the clouds, and you saw the snow covered Alps all around, with a brilliant blue sky behind them. This was much more dramatic than if it had been clear on the ground. There is an observation platform at the top, outside of the building. The views are fantastic. You can even hike out from the platform(which I did to get away the crowds after I had been there for several hours),and there is a trail back down to Murren if you are so inclined(I wasn't).There is a small theater in the building that shows part of an old James Bond movie that was made there.
