We visited Piz Gloria in the summer time many years ago and always wanted to revisit in the winter. This year we stayed in Interlaken and took the opportunity after checking that the weather would be clear. The route we took on the journey to the top was train from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen. A short walk under the road to the Cable Car Station to Grutschalp, accompanied by what seemed like a thousand skiers and skis, where a single carriage train awaited us. The journey to Murren was extremely picturesque and well worth the price of the trip. At Murren there was a fifteen minute walk through the village to the Schilthornbahn for the trip to Piz Gloiria. It was here that we encountered more skiers, if that was possible, than on the journey up to Grutschalp! (Forget being British and push and shove like the rest otherwise you will be left behind). Some of the skiers got off at Birg but most continued to Piz Gloria. The only saving grace was that very few came into the revolving restaurant. We had a light lunch of soup and bread which was accompanied by a bottle of water and a beer. The cost of SF 33.20 was in my opinion very reasonable. Everyone knows that the restaurant revolves but remember do not put anything on the window sill, as you will not see it again (if at all) for the next 45 minutes! The view on a clear winters day is spectacular and well worth the jostling and pushing and shoving. For the journey down we took the cable car down to Murren then to avoid the walk, the cable car to Stechelberg, where we caught the bus back to Lauterbrunnen (these run every half hour. I think that I enjoyed this winter trip to that in the summer!
