“Best place to stay in Murren!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2012

The Hotel Alpina is newly remodeled! It is still scrupulously clean, comfortable and has views that simply cannot be beaten!! The stay here, can be a vacation all on it's own.Hotel Alpina also has a lovely restaurant with a wonderful menu that offers more variety from the "typical" places found in the touristy areas of Switzerland. The real prize here, though, is the wonderful hospitality that you will experience from the Taugwalder family. Roger, his wife, and mother, along with an excellent staff, make this the place we always try to book when we are in Murren. (They have a wonderful family apartment and free wi-fi as well) We cannot wait to return!!

Very clean, petite hotel. With its location in consideration it deserves lots of credit. A bit pricey for its actual status but it makes up for all that with the best mountain views possible n very friendly staff. Best location for a view of the alps, paragliders, clouds etc etc..

Room Tip: Rooms on the side facing mountains.

We spent one night at the Hotel Alpina in July, 2012 and had a wonderful time. We had originally booked a four bed room, but when we arrived, Cécile infomred us that we had been moved to a two bedroom, family apartment at the same price. THe rooms were simple, but clean and comfortable. The balconys were large and offerred spectacular views of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau across the valley. Since we were on the lowest floor, though, foliage blocked the view directly down to the valley. Fortunately, we had clear skys so the views of the mountains kept us more than satisfied.
We also opted for the half board and found it to be filling and a good value. The morning breakfast was great and included choice of bread, eggs, pastries, cold meats, cheese, cereal, muesli, jams, juice and coffee. Views from the restaurant were breathtaking as well.
We spent the rest of our day traveling up to the Shilthorn and renting mountain bikes. In all, Murren is a magical little town and we all wished we could have spent more time here.

Room Tip: Foliage may block views of the valley from rooms on the lower floor

I've stayed at this hotel multiple times now and I will return in the future. The Hotelkeepers speak english as well as other languages and are very friendly and accommodating, but most of all knowledgeable about all the Mountains in the area. They have tips and advice for all the activities in the beautiful Swiss mountain villages scattered throughout the breath-taking Jungfrau mountain region. I recommend spending the extra money for the mountain side view, but the street side is pretty too. It's easy to get to, by cable car, and/or tram/train. The schedules are easy to follow as they run just like a subway/metro would work, and always on time. I will most certainly be returning to this hotel in the future as every time I stay I have the most memorable time. The mountains and fresh air really make you feel good. When I return, however, I will bring hairdryer since theirs didn't work. Must stay hotel!

Room Tip: Mountain side room is worth the money!!

The first time I walked on to the balcony at Hotel Alpina I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the views. Murren is one of the most breathtaking places that I have ever traveled. Hotel Alpina sits right on the hillside, which creates a optimal location for taking in the mountains above and valleys below. Alpina is sweet, clean, and comfortable. I loved having a refrigerator and a flat screen TV in the room. My family stayed 5 nights and loved our time at Alpina. The staff is friendly and helpful, especially Daniel who often worked breakfast. The Taugwalder family, who own Alpina, were such wonderful hosts. It was like being a part of a happy, extended family. I would recommend Hotel Alpina to anyone wanting to truly enjoy a lovely hotel in the majesty of the Alps.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room, which have the best views!

Hotel stay May/June 2009, 4 nights.

My boyfriend and I stayed here with his parents ending a 2 week trip across Europe. The hotel sits just on the edge of Murren with views below and to the alps. My boyfriend and I also stayed here in 2008 and decided to stay again and bring his parents. We stayed again in the corner room 11, for sentimental reasons really and that it had a large balcony as a corner room. His parents stayed in room 24, another floor up with a tub and lots of space with a balcony. Both were clean but in 2009 the hotel was just starting to show enough age it probably needed some updating (which based on the hotel website...it has/is). The mattresses were getting old too.

The breakfast was adequate but good enough for us. Sitting in the breakfast room having your coffee or teas with views out across the alps is a wonderful way to the start the day. We prefer this hotel because this particular hotel has unobstructed views of the alps, different than a lot of places here. Also, we have gone in late May and all of the hotels are not open yet.

We only a few complaints. One was the room the key with a large weight on it that you have to carry around with you. Additionally, there is not WIFI at this hotel but at the time they had a computer accessible for a cost (steep cost). Given other hotels have it there, it's disappointing they don't or at least did not in 2009 or 2008 (and it's not advertised on their current website as having it). Given we blog, we might think about this on our next trip back and consider another hotel, although we really do not want to do that.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room, high floor.
