This hotel was perfect in every way. The food was fantastic, the staff very helpful welcoming and warm, the room was spotless with everything we needed and an amazing view of the mountains. The location was also wonderful, opposite the train station and close to lots of beautiful walks and pastures as well as shops, funicular stations, places to eat etc. The village is quite quiet but there is a great atmosphere and all the locals are very friendly and always happy to help. We could not fault this hotel (and village) and would love to return, it made a perfect destination for very memorable and happy holiday... keep up the excellent work to the owners and all the lovely staff.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the Jungfrau... its a perfet way to start the day!

The hotel was great and the city of Murren was a lot less crowed then the other side of the valley. Over all, this is a great place to stay. The spacious rooms and friendly staff make this a great place to stay. Additionally, this hotel has the best restaurant and not just in Murren but on that side of the valley.

My wife and I hope to spend many more weekends in Murren,

Room Tip: The rooms with the Mt Vally view offer the best view.

We stayed at the Hotel Eiger in Murren in mid August and very much enjoyed ourselves. The view is...well, what's higher than 5 stars? 6 stars? 10 stars? It's truly remarkable to see the mountains up close like that, it feels like you can reach out and touch them. The restaurant at the hotel is also top notch, easily in the best in town and possibly the entire region. Murren itself is adorable, straight out of a Swiss travel brochure, as it is central to several hiking trails and essentially perched on a cliff. You have to access the town by driving to Lauterbrunnen, parking your car, taking to cable car up to Grustchalp, and then hopping on a 10 min train to Murren, the hotel is acros the street from the train station. If this was the US, this process would be fraught with peril, but the Swiss are extremely organized so it's fairly effortless. The town offers easy access to the cable car (a 10 min walk) up to see the Schiltorn. The jungfrau "top of europe" trip is a bit longer trek from Murren as you have to retrace your steps a bit to go back to Lauterbrunnen before heading up the mountain, but it's a must-see attraction (despite the fairly outrageous cost). We very much enjoyed our stay and hope to return in the years ahead.

Cannot say enough about this hotel - we arrived at the hotel on a Thursday evening around 8:45p after flying into Zurich airport. One of the owners greeted us and they held the restaurant open for us to have dinner.

Very comfortable rooms - views from balcony and outdoor dining area are great.

The customer service at this hotel is impeccable. The weather was unusually warm for Murren during June so they put a fan in our room to help cool it.

They opened the pool one night for us after the pool was closed.

I can't wait to go back to Murren and stay here again.

Room Tip: A room with a balcony is a must- we sat on our balcony every morning and evening - great view of th...

We stayed at Hotel Eiger for 3 nights in August 2012 as part of a week hiking trip in the Lauterbrunnen valley in Switzerland. My boyfriend and I had the trip organized by a company that booked this hotel.

Transportation:

The hotel is across from the train station in Murren. We hiked to this hotel from another location and picked up our luggage at the train station (as they do luggage transfer). Murren is a lovely village and getting around the town was easy by foot. There are not a lot of restaurants outside of the hotel restaurants and a few tourist shops. There is 1 grocery store (Coop).

Room & Bathroom (photos included):

We stayed in room 337 which faces the mountain ranges of Eiger and Jungfrau. The room was spacious and had a shared balcony where you could enjoy the view of the mountain ranges. The décor of the room is slightly outdated but it was clean. The bed was comfortable and it does sit low to the ground as this was the case with all the hotels we stayed in on this trip. The bathroom toiletries included hair conditioner, which is often not included through our travels in Europe. The room had a big flat screen TV with many channels in different languages. There were a few channels in English but we didn’t spend anytime watching TV.

Service:

As part of the package stay we had the half board – a set menu for dinner where we could choose the main course from 3 options. There was always a vegetarian option. I do eat fish and they did have a fish option 1 night of the 3 we were there. My boyfriend and I are mixed on the food review. The first night the food was not good – both the meat and veggie option. Each of the 4 courses (except the salad) did not taste good. My vegetarian meal was awful that I couldn’t eat it. And even the dessert was not tasty. However, the second night was a bit better. I had salmon and it was very good as was the meat dish for my boyfriend. The 3rd night I asked if I could order ‘a la carte’ because the set menu did not have fish and the vegetarian option did not sound good to me. They did charge me the full price for doing so. We did arrive late for dinner just as the kitchen closes at 21:00 (9pm) and they did allow us to eat which was very nice of them. One night we were invited to have a free appertif (cocktail) before dinner which was really nice as the owners (still family owned) were there to greet the guests for the evening.

We did not use the pool or any other services. The customer service was very attentive. It is possibly even more attentive than service in the USA. It depends on your expectations and what you like. We prefer the waiter to be more distant so this for us was over the top and slightly intrusive in trying to enjoy our dinner (and why I gave service average). At one point the waiter stood next to me waiting for me to select the wine and it was weird to have a conversation with my boyfriend while he was standing there waiting.

The internet was free! This was a great plus point!

Overall, our stay was pleasant and the room fit our needs (with a great view). I would suggest not doing the half board. The a la carte option would be better.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the mountain ranges are breathtaking.

Hotel owners were helpful, polite and friendly. They even had a cocktail hour on Tuesday Afternoon for residents. View from my room was amazing. Be sure and get a room in the front of the hotel. It is a little noisy but worth it. No Air Conditioner so it was warm because we were there in July but standable. Truly wished I could have stayed another day or two at the Hotel Eiger. Food was good. The breakfast had crossiants to die for! We had to leave very early to catch a train and they were kind enough to open the resturant early just for us. Staff went beyond what was expected to make our stay lovely.
