Our visit to the area was not for skiing, although it looked spectacular. I had come to stay in Lauterbrunnen before and took my kids sledging (sledding) up in Murren and wanted to do it again on a trip here with friends. Murren didn't have enough snow, so we headed up to Kleine Scheidegg. The sporting shop at the train stop rents the sleds...it's like $20 for all day and you get $5 back if you return it to the same shop rather than the shop down the mountain. The gentlemen who work in the shop were helpful and funny (helping too middle-aged women who wanted to go sledding!) and they directed us on the basics of turning and stopping, etc. and sent us on our way. I swear to you, it was the most fun in the midst of the most majestic place I can imagine. There way no one around but us laughing wildly as we screamed down the hills. The run from Kleine Scheidegg to Brandegg took about 1.5 hours and we were able to do it twice with an easy train hop back up to the top. There is a cafe at Brandegg so you can get a bite to eat or a nice cold one before riding again!

When we arrived and stepped off the train, the surroundings were beautiful. We are beginner skiers and had a great time skiing at the beginner's park. There is a cute igloo that you can ski through which is great fun. There is also a magic carpet. There are more advanced trails and sledding trails as well. The best part is seeing the Eiger, breathing in the fresh Swiss air and watching 2 year olds ski like pros. I highly recommend this cute town even if you don't ski. It's a really beautiful town with splendid views.

This was our second visit to the Bernese Oberland and we were staying in Wengen which is halfway up the Jungfrau mountain range.
Kleine Scheidegg is where trains from Wengen and Grindelwald meet up and from here you can catch the joining train up to the Top Of Europe from here.
It is also is the starting or ending point for various walks around the area.It has a couple of restaurants and gift shops to look around for souvenirs or have a break and the best part of being at Kleine Scheidegg for us was it was right on the doorstep of the mighty north wall of the Eiger which is very imposing and has a lot of history about it as well as close up views of the Observatory at the top of Europe and the Monch and Jungfrau Mountains.
It is the perfect starting point to walks down to Grindelwald or Wengen or even up to Mannlichen.
This is the main "Gateway to the Jungfraujoch"

Fantastic views of the mountains & the starting place for the Jungfrau mountain train. Also the railhead for rack railways to Lauterbrunnen & Grindelwald.

Snow, mountain, sunshine, blue sky!!! We went there on mid Nov 2013 in the afternoon, after pass through a thick fog like can't see anything 50m in front of us, there we go, a stunning landscape!! White mountain white land with sunflare and comfortable temperature and we sweat!! We love this place soooooo much! Unfortunately we failed our "mission" to hike to the beautiful Fallbondensee Lake (we google searched image) due to not enough time, we will definitely come back again!! Wait me Kleine Scheidegg!! :)
