My friends and I had a horrible experience at Heidi's hostel. Old, Creaky, Creepy and FILTHY are just a few words to describe the house itself. It smells like dog. Heidi is a sweet old lady but needs to give up the business. WAY too many beds are crammed into each room and it's just a huge fire hazard. One small room had about 7 beds in it, making it impossible to walk about the room. You literally had to walk across the beds to get to the other side. The bathroom was disgusting, used band-aids were in the shower. They are absolute hoarders, so everywhere you walk there is a stack of newspapers or old antiques piled up. The so called 'guest kitchen' is in horrible condition, and inside the fridge was rotted food that has probably been in there for years. My friends and I were horrified and refused to sleep there. The 'provided linens' are old stained hand towels and the sheets on our beds were not washed. (If you have seen the hostel you would not be surprised). There is no storage for personal items, so we had to carry our expensive things with us. It is absolutely disgusting and not worth it-I wouldn't even stay there if someone paid me to! A group of about 20 of us sat outside talking about how ridiculous it was and no one had anything positive to say. Stay somewhere else or prepare yourself for one crazy and sleepless experience!

We chose Heidi's Hostel for its low price, so I wasn't surprised to see that it wasn't as nice as other places I've stayed at. Their six-bed "dorm" room was very tight, and the hall bathroom was sparse, but the lack of luxury at this hostel was made up for by its wonderful proprietor, Heidi. She was grandmotherly, plying us with chocolates and strawberry-flavored marshmallow candies, and she gave several good recommendations on where to eat, have a glass of wine, or get a good view of the Jungfrau. Since it wasn't the high season and she wasn't at capacity, she even let us leave our bags there during our final day, so we didn't have to lug them around with us. I'd definitely stay there again.

A couple friends and I traveled through Europe this summer, and this was one of the most disgusting places we stayed at. We were there for only one night, but it was definitely an experience: the hostel is basically just an old house, the hallways are dark, spooky and cobwebby, and the room itself was absolutely tiny! We got a private room for 3 people, and with the 3 of us in the room with our luggage there was practically nowhere to stand. The bathroom was (no joke) a remodeled closet - what normally would have been a small closet was redone to accomodate a toilet and shower (the pressure was good, at least!) The sheets had a funny smell (thank god we had our own!) and the sink was broken - it wouldn't stop running no matter how hard you turned it. The place is run by a slightly crazy, but very friendly old lady who was very eager to please.

In other cities around Europe, we paid the same or even less but got much much better places...but I guess we got what we paid for, because this IS Interlaken we're talking about - everything is pricey there. Since we were only there for one night, we decided to just treat the whole thing with a good attitude and sense of humor - think of it as an adventure, etc. The fact that the hostel was awful didn't keep us from loving our day in Interlaken - its a beautiful place, and if you're on a tight budget (like we were) then of-course it makes sense to save money on the hotel and use it for the mountain adventures.

This place is old and needs a lot of updating. The photos don't depict what you will find once you arrive. There was an odd smell in the hall and the place was messy and cluttered. The shower and toilet was a pre-fab box in the room and also had a smell about it. It's too bad because the owner was very nice and the place is in a great location and the price was right. If all you need is a place to stay, I would say okay..

I was just looking for a hotel in Interlaken, and the reviews of Heidi's Hostel brought back terrible memories. We had an upstairs room, in I think 2006, although I may be wrong.

The room was old, but interesting. It had an ensuite toilet / shower in a cupboard that was so dirty and smelly, the first thing we did was go out and buy lots of strong disinfectant.

The hotel is pretty central, very near public transport and the lake and we had a lovely stay in Interlaken - so good, we are now planning to go back, but not to Heidi's Hostel. I wouldn't go in there if you paid me to!

The hostel is divided in two, a hostel and a hotel - we were in the hotel bit, and I hate to think what the hostel was like. It really was dusty and dirty, but we chose it on the basis of cost and we suffered for it. The only redeeming feature was the woman who ran it - she had lived in London and had lots of tales to tell in excellent English.

Avoid at all costs unless you don't mind where you sleep.

Stayed in a double room for a weekend. The place had a good location in a quiet neighbourhood, but still close enough to walk to everything. Lots of families staying here, if you can do not get a room near the kitchen. It is VERY noisy in the morning. This place was like something out of a time warp, old furniture and stuff everywhere. Very cluttered. The room was comfortable enough, clean, the beds were fine, and we had a balcony (which would have been even better had we not been on the ground floor overlooking the entrance). The lady that runs the place is nice, but slightly crazy. Also, they offer booking for adventure sports - DO NOT let them book for you. The guys don't really know what they are doing, and you are better off to book it on your own to make sure you get exactly the package that you want. Also, make sure that you print a copy of your comfirmation when you pay - they tried to charge us more than the original quoted price. Not a terrible place to stay, but you could probably do better for the price.

The landlady was a friendly n charming lady who spoke good English. Rooms are dimly lit but comfortable although hallways were a bit spooky.

Price was reasonable as well.
