The food is fantastic. We stumbled across this place accidentally and thank goodness we did, the decor is pleasant, the staff are very attentive and service quick and smooth. We ordered the pork belly and chicken breast. They came out looking like $50+ mains. The presentation was impressive and the taste was better. I could not fault one part of the evening, I thoroughly recommend this place for good quality food, lovely attentive service and a delightful evening.

Reservation was made through online, the system is very user-friendly. The manager called to follow-up the reservation details and was very caring.

The presentation of the food was simple but very nice. The food was really nice except the risotto that we ordered was slightly salty. Unfortunately, we didn't finish all the food since the portion is quite big for each dish and we ordered quite a lot. The staff were extraordinary in this restaurant. Would like to visit again in the future!

Many thanks to the great dinner!

Had Swiss cheese fondue, thought it was rough in texture and perhaps overcooked, Good taste though and reasonable price. The other food looked very well presented. Breakfast was fantastic so expect other food to be also.

The meal was terrific. Many courses were served and all looked as amazing as they tasted. In the beginning the servers were a bit cold. We had to ask for drinks. But, as the night went on, the service got a little better. The food definitely made up for the service though!

After a number of disappointments in Interlaken, I always do a bit of research before entering a restaurant. Taverne came highly recommended on TA, so it seemed like a sure bet. I wasn't really impressed, though. As a caveat, we did the Fondue Chinoise buffet and didn't order anything off the menu.

The restaurant looks very nice, and we were pretty happy with the service. The complimentary starter (tomato mousse) was very nice, and we had an excellent bottle of Swiss wine.

However, the Fondue Chinoise was just incredibly bland and relatively uninteresting (especially considering it was CHF 40 per person). I guess I'm not enough of a fondue expert to have known there are two types of meat fondues (one with wine/oil and another with a light consommé soup - the latter being served here). I recall having the wine/oil many times and finding the flavor amazing; the fondue here was just meat boiled in water with some mayo-based sauces. Selection wasn't overly exciting either.

I recently read that meat fondues as Swiss cuisine were actually an American invention (cheese fondue being the only authentic Swiss fondue), so I'll stick to that in the future. I'll also try a new restaurant the next time I'm in Interlaken with the hope of finally finding something that comes close to Benacus.

Dear Guest

Thank you for writing a review on our Restaurant Taverne. We are pleased to see that you liked the atmosphere as well as the service.

Much to our regret the Fondue Chinoise didn’t meet your expectations. This kind of fondue has its origins in China and Japan and consists of meat and vegetables which you dunk into a broth (not just water). From mid October till mid January we offer a Fondue Chinoise all-you-can-eat buffet for CHF 39.00 with 3 kinds of meat, rice and French fries, 6 different sauces and several garnitures.
The Fondue Chinoise is very popular in Switzerland as it is lighter than the Fondue Bourguinonne which comes from Burgundy, France and is based on boiling oil to dunk the meat into.

As you correctly stated the Cheese Fondue is a Swiss invention, but can also be found in France and in Italy. Restaurant Taverne also offers this kind of fondue.

Chocolate fondue is one of many great American inventions.

Should you have the time and more important, should you feel like it we would be happy to welcome you back on your next visit to Interlaken and hopefully get a chance to introduce you to our well assorted menu.

In the meantime we wish you many gastronomic adventures.

Best regards
Karin Snitgaard
