“Excellent stay, better than some hotels”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

Summary: We will not consider staying anywhere else in Interlaken if this place continues to be THIS GOOD!

Details:
We stayed as a family of four adults in a room with 4 beds (2 single put together, and a 2-tier bunk bed), WC, shower and balcony.

Pros:
Brand new - the building was just completed in Sept 2012

Clean, clean and CLEAN! - everywhere we looked the place was clean: the beds, the ensuite WC/shower, hallways, elevator, stairs, lobby, dinning area, even the shared WCs and showers! Seriously, my husband and I both agree we could probably eat off the floor of the shared WCs. It's THAT clean!

Spacious rooms - big enough for 4 adults to move around comfortably even after all the suitcases are hauled in

Spacious elevator - again, big enough for 4 adults + their reasonable size luggage

Breakfast included - anyone who has traveled to Switzerland knows everything there is $$$. A sit-down breakfast is no exception. Having breakfast included in the room rate is therefore a great perk. Selection of food is reasonable: 4 types of cereal, choices of fruits, juices, milk, deli meat, cheese, bread, (good quality) coffee and tea. If croissants are must for your mornings, please bring some cash. They are not included in the standard breakfast.

Free wifi in lobby - wifi is only available in the lobby, and considering there were maybe 15 - 20 teenagers texting, browsing, instagraming, FB-ing, video gaming and 1 person even video-streaming over the same connection with us at the time, the speed was great.

Environmentally friendly - lighting in common areas is motion sensitive. Lights in lobby stay on until late in the night, then it's set to motion sensitive mode. If you happen to wake up at 3am and want to check email, don't worry about the pitch-black hallways and lobby. They will light up as soon as you step out!

Late check-in - you can check into your room as late as midnight!

Don't have to be a YHA member - you can reserve and stay in a room in the hostel without being a member of YHA. Although you are charged an extra CHF 6 per night for your stay

Location - Interlaken OST station is literally next store. Perfect if trying to catch a train early the next day

Cons:
Location w.r.t downtown - it was maybe a 10-12 mins walk. Not a biggie for us, but some people may prefer to be closer to nicer restaurants

Putting linen on your own bed - new set of bedspread, pillow case and duvet cover was put at the end of each of our beds at check-in. Guests were supposed to dress the bed and pillow themselves, and return the linen to a designated area at check-out. Our elderly parents struggled a little to put the fitted sheet on the mattress, but it wasn't anything we couldn't help them complete. So again, not a biggie for us.

The place is 2 minutes walk from the Interlaken OST railway station. Please avoid the directions given by Google maps as its useless and misleading. The reception staff were very helpful and charming. We got a couple room with ensuite bathroom and a very reasonable rate. The rooms were spotless clean and offerred a beautiful view, The included breakfast was just superb. The Hostel had a huge restaurant/cafe with reasonably priced food. I shall definitely recommend this to my friends.

We stayed there for 4 nights during October 2012 in a private room for 2 persons.
Good:
- Right next to the Interlaken Ost station.
- Clean room
- Nice reception area
- Breakfast is buffet with choices of cereal, fruits, breads, cheeses, hams, hot coffee and chocolate and juice. Can really fill us up till afternoon
Not so good:
- I think the wall is pretty thin as we can listen clearly to chinese songs next door
- Could be noisy
- Internet only available on the ground floor

The location can't get any better. Decent prices for shared rooms in the most touristic (and expensive) part of Switzerland. The wifi was available only in the lounge, but I don't consider this a big minus.

This YOUTH HOSTEL is adjacent to the Interlaken OST train station. We stayed there one night (by sheer accident) and the place is spanking new. A big concrete building but our room had a nice view of the river and the train tracks. We paid CHF 125.6 for 2 adults which included a great breakfast. Although it is full of young people, there were many over 40 year olds staying here. Free WIFI -- linens and towels are provided. You have to make your own bed. Since the place is brand new -- everything was in perfect shape and efficient a la suisse style. The trains that go by can be slightly noisy but overall it is a great place at a great price.

This place has the advantage of being right beside the train station and being brand new, but it fails where it counts for most young travels: value. This was by far the most expensive place we stayed in Interlaken, and it left a lot to be desired. First, upon arrival, we were charged an extra "membership" fee that was not clearly disclosed during the booking process. Second, the room we had reserved (for four people) was not available, so we were placed in a six-person room instead. Third, the hostel advertises that it offers wireless internet, but there is no connection in the rooms, only in the downstairs lobby, which is pretty useless for people who need a connection in their rooms. Last, the place was crawling with kids who appeared to be about ten years old and who constantly ran rowdily up and down the hallways without any staff asking them to quiet down. Most galling was the refund policy, which, instead of the customary 24 hours, requires 60 days! They are very strict with this policy. Although this place is branded as an upscale hostel, I found it to be anything but that and don't feel that paying extra to pay here makes any sense. I much preferred Balmer's Tent Village, which, besides being much cheaper, offers many more amenities, like a pool and hot tub, is closer to trekking, has much better views, and attracts a more mature crowd (no noisy kids running all over). They also don't have the nerve to charge an extra "membership" fee upon check-in!

i mean, it's just beside the interlaken ost station. it took us quite some time to find because we didn't expect it to be sooo close!

this was the most expensive hostel we stayed throughout our 20 days backpacking in europe. we stayed in a 4-bedded room with a chinese guy as our roommate. i think it's like 40 CHF per person per night!

however, i think it worths. comfortable lobby and we felt very warm when we get inside, clean tidy and large room, comfortable showering facilities with good privacy. nice staff and we'd enjoyed eating in the restaurant inside the hostel and enjoying euro cup at the same time :)

cons: no wifi in room (strong wifi in lobby though), quite expensive dinner (CHF17), the toilet smells a bit.

but yeah if u don't mind paying slightly more, u should choose this one because it gives me a feeling that it is sort of a 5-star hostel!!!
