The location can't get any better. Decent prices for shared rooms in the most touristic (and expensive) part of Switzerland. The wifi was available only in the lounge, but I don't consider this a big minus.

This YOUTH HOSTEL is adjacent to the Interlaken OST train station. We stayed there one night (by sheer accident) and the place is spanking new. A big concrete building but our room had a nice view of the river and the train tracks. We paid CHF 125.6 for 2 adults which included a great breakfast. Although it is full of young people, there were many over 40 year olds staying here. Free WIFI -- linens and towels are provided. You have to make your own bed. Since the place is brand new -- everything was in perfect shape and efficient a la suisse style. The trains that go by can be slightly noisy but overall it is a great place at a great price.

This place has the advantage of being right beside the train station and being brand new, but it fails where it counts for most young travels: value. This was by far the most expensive place we stayed in Interlaken, and it left a lot to be desired. First, upon arrival, we were charged an extra "membership" fee that was not clearly disclosed during the booking process. Second, the room we had reserved (for four people) was not available, so we were placed in a six-person room instead. Third, the hostel advertises that it offers wireless internet, but there is no connection in the rooms, only in the downstairs lobby, which is pretty useless for people who need a connection in their rooms. Last, the place was crawling with kids who appeared to be about ten years old and who constantly ran rowdily up and down the hallways without any staff asking them to quiet down. Most galling was the refund policy, which, instead of the customary 24 hours, requires 60 days! They are very strict with this policy. Although this place is branded as an upscale hostel, I found it to be anything but that and don't feel that paying extra to pay here makes any sense. I much preferred Balmer's Tent Village, which, besides being much cheaper, offers many more amenities, like a pool and hot tub, is closer to trekking, has much better views, and attracts a more mature crowd (no noisy kids running all over). They also don't have the nerve to charge an extra "membership" fee upon check-in!
