Perfect location for skiing. Great people and place to stay. The food is exceptional. Everything was perfect for our first trip skiing in Switzerland. We recommend getting the breakfast and dinner package - great variety and always delicious. Sitting on the sunny deck in the late afternoon hours with a glass of wine or a beer is an awesome way to end a day of skiing.

We loved this stay on our multi day hike across the Bernese Oberland. Fantastic restaurant, lovely views and perfect accommodations for our family of 3. Room was clean, modern and had a private bath. Highly recommend.

This is a really excellent hotel in every respect; on a recent visit our family happiness index increased enormously. The location is obviously a huge draw and of itself would highly recommend the Berghaus Bort. But there is much much more. It is beautifully run and highly professional but relaxed, informal and very friendly- a rare combination. The food and drink are lovely - really very good indeed, the rooms very comfortable with terrific views and the staff and owners are kind, attentive where they need to be and exceptionally warm and helpful. In the evenings and early mornings it's a powerfully peaceful mountain haven but lively in a very attractive way during the day. At night you can stand in the crisp snow and marvel at the mountains in total sllence if you wish or return to the convivial log burner warmed restaurant for an after dinner herbal tea, schnapps or excellent glass of local ( or good choice of other ) wine or iced beer. Swiss wine has been something of a revelation to me. There isn't much exported to the UK but my own French biased ignorance meant I was surprised and delighted by some delicious whites and reds. In the day time everything is easily accessible- Grindelwald has pretty much every thing you might need or you can easily get a train down to Interlaken or drive if you have a car. Many hotels would rest on the laurels of such a unique location but the Berghaus Bort demonstrably strives hard to provide a tremendous holiday experience at every level and is a model of an efficient, well run and yet highly personalised business. Whether you are a young or older family or a couple of any age, travelling independently or with a smallish group, I'd say this hotel has all you could want for skiing, hiking, snowshoeing or sledging ( which is brilliant ) all from the front door. If a member of your group doesn't ski, no matter. This is a place that, if you like mountains, you can spend a physically and spiritually refreshing time doing other things. That you can eat well is a seductive bonus. It does need a little planning in the winter to get to- there is no road from the nearest village, Grindelwald, in the winter months and access is by cable car only ( about 12 minutes ) so pack and plan accordingly. There is a constant run of gondolas all day but the last one up is at around 1615 so best to arrive mid afternoon. I would guess it is equally brilliant in the summer.

I took my mum for a little trip and this place, Grindelwald is absolutely stunning. First timers in Switzerland, and I chose to book this hotel and it was absolutely the right choice.

The premises very lovely and clean and staff very nice and friendly. Not all people down the mountain in Grindelwald are friendly which took me aback.

But the staff here were great. We stayed on half board for about 35 swiss franc each. The food here is very nice. The breakfast is good too, lots of choice.

We stayed 5 nights, mostly foggy, one day raining but the fog passes quickly so we even managed to make it up First and did a hike and also the cart ride down too!

Getting up and down the hotel is not free so bear this in mind as it can get costly.

The hotel is a short walk from the train station, then you take a gondola up to the premises.

I didn't realise there were lots of hotels at the base, which no doubt would of been much cheaper.

But Berghaus Bort is a gem. Only fault is the amount of flies in the dining area, which was very annoying and I'm sure other reviewers have picked up on.

Would still recommend and stay here again though!

Stunning views to be had of the Eiger on a clear day!

If you love being in the middle of spectacular scenery away from crowds, Berghaus Bort is the place for you. We were so glad we chose to stay there, as opposed to being in the middle of Grindelwald. The ride up is an adventure, and takes a little time to get to. Once there, you'll feel little desire to go back in to town. Waking up to the sound of cowbells is magical, and the convenient location next to the lift transports you up to the amazing trails in the mountaintops at First. Rooms are simple, but clean and cute. It took some getting used to having the bathroom across the hall, but it was a nice large bathroom. After traveling for a while, it was nice to have the drying towel racks to wash a few clothes. Breakfasts were delicious, dinners were good, and the staff were friendly. Only one thing we missed. We love staying at family-run inns, because of the warmth. The website led us to believe that this was such a place, but we never saw any sign of the owners during our stay. Maybe they were out of town. We missed their presence. But we overall had a wonderful stay at an amazing place!

Room tip: Get a room with a view!
