“Wonderful to Walk so Close to the Eiger”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

This was one of the reasons why we came to Switzerland. My husband had been reading about the Eiger for years and had always wanted to see it up close. It's not a difficult or particularly long trail, but it is very beautiful. The views are amazing and you can even look up and see the windows where the train to the Jungfraujoch stops. We walked it from Alpiglen to the Eigergletscher one day (had lunch there and then walked down to Wengen). Then walked it the other way from Kleine Scheidegg, up to the Eigergletscher, and, in an odd bit of symmetry, stopped at Alpiglen to eat before continuing on to Grindelwald.

“Stunning - but go when it is sunny...”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

The Eiger trail is touted as one of the best hikes in the world and I have to agree; with the caveat that it pays to go when it is sunny. I hiked it yesterday and the North Face was, very unfortunately, shrouded in cloud, which really detracted from the experience. I wanted to see the climbing routes close up but couldn't due to the weather. That said, the hike itself is frickin' awesome and if you are an avid hiker I would highly recommend checking it out. If you are looking for a casual stroll or have physical issues, there are many other walks in the region that would be more suitable...

“Incredible View”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

This trail had it all: wild flowers, view of the Eiger, snow fields, waterfalls, and a sign showing the route of the first ascent of the north face.

“Stunning walk under the Eiger”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

One of the best walks in the area. Best done from Kleine Scheidegg via Eigergletscher and down to Alpiglen (about 3hrs) Detour on the way to Eigergletscher to the moraine path with stunning views up to the Eiger, Monch and Jungrau. On the way down to Alpiglen lots of great views of the infamous Eiger Nordwand (north wall) and its precipitous cliffs.

“Go from Alpiglen and hike to Eigergletscher”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

Most people hike down from Eigergletscher to Alpiglen and call this trail easy. Well if you do it in reverse where you actually have to do a lot of ascending, you can make it more challenging. In addition, not being able to see where the end is (it always seems like it's just over the next hill) adds to the challenge. If you are stopping to take pictures and admire the views, this 5 mile hike will take between 3.5-4 hours. And don't forget the 30 minute walk down from Eigergletscher station to Kleine Scheidegg. Overall a great hike with all sorts of views, and if it is your goal to be near the Eiger North Face you must do this.
