Jungfrau Lodge Swiss Mountain Hotel
Ranked #21 of 41 Hotels in Grindelwald
Reviewed February 24, 2012

Stayed at the Jungfrau Lodge in January/February 2011 on a skiing holiday booked through Inghams on a half board basis. The only thing to fault the hotel is the quality of the room - although perfectly clean and tidy it felt more 1970s than 2012. The staff were fantastic - could not have been more friendly and helpful, communal parts of the hotel were modern comfortable and cosy - food "continental" but great al the same. A few minutes walk from the ski bus stop and only 5-10 minutes walk (in ski boots) from the station - all in all a great location. This is not a 5 star hotel, but nor is it charging 5 star prices. Set your expectations appropriately and you will have a great stay at the Jungfrau.

Stayed for 3 nights during July 2011. Good location just 5 minutes from the main railway station with a fantastoc view of the Eiger. Breakfast was good and service was polite, efficient and friendly. Despite this the quality of the room was rather dissapointing, although clean, it looked very tired and in need of a bit of TLC. I guess finding a reasonably priced room in Switzerland is always a bit challenging, but anywhere else, would represent poor value for money.

stayed for 5 nights in a crystal double room with unobstructed view of the Eiger. For 130chf per night, we thought it was value for money. Location was 5 min from railway station - walk toward hotel regina and continue downhill past Hotel Belvedere. 10 min from Mannlichen cable car station and 15 min from First cable car station. Breakfast was good, and so was half board dinner - 35CHF per pax. Rooms were comfortable, but no safe/hot water kettle (pay 2CHF for hot water). We had to trot to reception to get towels/hot water/etc - not sure if that's because we were in a separate building from Reception.

Room Tip: Top up 10 CHF for a room in the Crystal wing! The view is worth it!

Loved the view from our room facing the Eiger and the Grindelwald valley.
The staff was extremely friendly and was always eager to help out.
Rooms and bathrooms were not in great condition.
The walk to the hotel from the train station is downhill. Ask for porter help to carry your luggages to the train station. This will help you avoid pulling your luggage uphill from the hotel.

We had a comfortable stay in the chalet part of the hotel. Rooms are well maintained and clean
Buffet breakfast is good, although the place is sometimes crowded due to groups of tourists.
Staff is very helpful. Good value for money.
Advice: Ask a room facing the Eiger mountain, the views are stunning.

We got a double room with a balcony on the second floor. The room has modern fittings and adequate furniture to make it a very comfortable stay. The hotel is well maintained and very clean. Our room balcony had an open view of the Eiger mountain and the green valley. Buffet breakfast was inclusive and it was good. What we liked about this hotel were its very helpful staff - they were all so polite, well-trained and attentive. There is onsite free parking and it gave us a lot of convenience as we could leave the car and walk to the cable car stations.

We spent one night at the Jungfrau Lodge in September 2011.

We arrived by car and there was plenty of free parking next to the hotel. We were given a room on the second floor, there didn't seem to be a lift and I wished we'd packed lighter! The room was small, but had a balcony overlooking the mountains with enough room for the two of us to sit outside. The bathroom was also small and the light took a while to come on, also the shower had a mind of its own and would sometimes swivel or lift itself out of the holder whilst in use, which could be rather disconcerting!

There was no free internet access, which is unusual for Swiss hotels, and made planning our trips more difficult than it could have been. The beds had uncomfortable pillows and creaked when you rolled over. Worst of all there was a lot of noise from children in both the room next to ours and upstairs, the rooms had wooden floorboards, so the noise of our neighbours running around for several hours until gone 11pm, followed by the noise of creaky beds and uncomfortable pillows meant my patience had run thin and I didn't get muich sleep. Breakfast the following morning was okay, but there weren't enough tables for the number of guests and there were notices stating that if you took any food out of the breakfast room it would be charged to your account.

The town centre and cable car to First were about a ten to fifteen minute walk away, but worth the trip.

If I were to return to Grindelwald, unfortunately I'd need to find an alternate hotel to save me being so bad tempered the following day due to lack of sleep.
