“Swiss Vacation dreams fulfilled!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

Five glorious nights, incredible hikes right outside the door, phenomenal and fresh four course dinners varied nightly and accommodating to vegetarians, LGBT friendly and welcoming, and absolutely first rate professional attention and assistance! For example, a cold rain drenched us hiking up to an Alpine Lake on our first day, and on our return, Gabriella fired up the sauna out of season for us to warm our tired bones up before dinner. Cozy, old world, swiss chalet feel, with perfect hospitality. Many of the guests were return visitors, and I can see why - we will certainly be back again!

Room Tip: Pay the extra for the larger rooms with views of the Eiger smack outside your balcony!

We spent two nights in Grindewald w/ our children and all of us really enjoyed this charming, family run hotel. Rooms are small and not exactly luxurious, but everything works, the rooms are super clean and the family that runs the hotel are super welcoming. In fact, we were originally scheduled to spend 3 nights and had to cancel our first night at last minute and thus had to pay for our two rooms. When we arrived, the owner graciously offered to not charge us if we dined at the hotel one night. We did, food was great. Try scooter down mountain, really fun!

My wife and I and another couple who are good friends stayed here this week. We had 2 rooms next to each other that shared a common balcony. The view from the balcony was spectacular. The hotel is a cozy hotel that serves a good European breakfast and has a nice sitting room with a fireplace for relaxing and having a drink in the evening. We did not eat dinner at the hotel so we can not comment on the dinners.
Gerhardt and Gabriel were fantastic hosts who told us about the things to do in the area, set us up with tickets, and gave us recommendations that helped us get the most out of our short time there. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony view of the mountains

We chose the Hotel Gletschergarten after reading lots of positive Trip Advisor reivews. We weren't disappointed. Gery & Gabriela are excellent hosts, helping to make the most of our stay. Gery met us at the train station for the short, but uphill, trip to the hotel. Upon check-in, Gabriela had great suggestions on excursions we might be interested in, and advice on the best travel pass to buy.

The view from our room was spectacular, two Alpine peaks with a third, glacier covered mountain in between.

The rate we paid included a great continental breakfast, and the dining room was open in the evenings for dinner. A very reasonable (for Switzerland) 40 CHF per person for a 4 course meal. We ate at the hotel two nights out of three, and had excellent meals both nights.

I highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a stay in Grindelwald.

Room Tip: Room 27 has a wrap around balcony, with great views of the glacier.

Do you remember this promo of Heineken beer? Am not sure about beer, but the Hotel Gletschergarten is DEFINITELY the best hotel in the world.
Why?
1. The business is family business with 114 years of tradition
2. Due to that the atmosphere is warm, friendly and very calm
3. The excellent pair of owners - Gabriela & Gerhard - rule the enterprise not as a source of money only, but as beloved child of family. And you feel it! They also sit constantly at the reception- so no smallest detail does not stay without their attention
4. Their excellent taste make you feel yourself in the lobby, in the library - as the guest of nineteenth century gentleman
5. The personal is really professional and more of this: they smile from the hart, not from the duty
6. The view from the window is just fantastic. You can sit hours looking at mountains and Gletscher
7. The prices are standard for High Season Grindelwald Hotels ( 200 cf for a pair for a night including breakfast, 220 for super room, august 2013) and to our mind the ratio of product quality to price is very high.
8. And the bonus: the stand alone chalet with two rooms ( two beds in each + possibility of additional camping bed in one of rooms ) for only 140 cf for pair for a night including breakfast and all the nice goodies of the main building. Fits to a couple with children or two couple of friends. Also exists some additional facility like this - details at Gabriela & Gerhard

We stayed at the Chalet just across the street from the main hotel (each morning on the way to breakfast you pass a lovely bakery and the smell is divine! I recommend picking up snacks for later!) We had 3 rooms, a hall, a big balcony, and a full bathroom in what is set up like an apartment, although there is no kitchen. It was perfect for our family of 4. Our kids each had their own bedrooms, one had a twin size bed, a TV, and a sink, one had a full size bed, and the master had a king, a couch, and a TV. It was very spacious and after traveling together we for an extended vacation and sharing one single room in some accommodations it was VERY nice to spread out!!!
Upon arrival I borrowed the WIFI at a hotel near the train station to call the hotel. Gerhy came to pick us and bring us to the Chalet. Such a nice personal touch!!! We ate buffet breakfast in the main hotel each morning. One evening we had the set menu for dinner which we enjoyed very much. I even did 2 loads of laundry in the hotel one evening. I wish I had done a third load!!! We purchased all our excursion tickets with Gabriella or Gerhy at the front desk and they helped us figure out the best plans for our time spent in Grindelwald. We loved our stay and highly recommend it to families.
The view from the balcony is exceptional!!!! Its like having the Eiger all to yourself!
It's a very short walk to town for shops, restaurants, and the Coop grocery. Switzerland is crazy expensive! I highly suggest hitting Coop for snacks, drinks, and and picnic lunches.

We chose this hotel for its location and services. we rented an appartment (hotturnen) which included all the facilities and services that were necessary to make our stay very comfortable. We also enjoy a card to go to the sportzentrum. the view from the terrace was magnificent. The owners were very kind. We highly recommend this hotel.
