Above the village, from where it commands an extensive and splendid view of the Eiger and the Wetterhorn, is this exceptionally attractive hotel - a stone house with lovely balconies bright with flowers. It dates from 1899 but has been enlarged and renovated. The character of the hotel is relaxed, friendly and warm. The interior is snug, charming and tastefully decorated. The dining room, which looks fresh and new, is cozy and intimate and was designed for relaxed and easy comfort. Just beside it is a another cozy smaller room with handsome wooden beams across its ceiling - a room where we took our aperitifs. The hotel is run by a young couple, the owners, Gabriela and Gery, who put their extraordinary energy and hearts into making this a great place. They are on the job from morning until night - they make you feel at home, always smiling and helping to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable - everything seems to come natural and easy, not forced. Every feature of the hotel is run with thoughtful care and good taste. It is worth taking dinner at the hotel because the chef cooks up a tasty and interesting four-course meal. Far more interesting than the fare served up in many of the restaurants just down the street. Breakfast is also especially good - muesli with chopped fruit, sliced cheese and meat, good quality jam and rolls as well as different breads.
The Gletschergarten is truly a wonderful hotel - highly recommended,
Ann and Gabor Kato

This warm, inviting, family run hotel was one of the major highlights of our 3 week trip in Switzerland. We had a car, but it is convenient walking distance from the RR station. 4th generation owners, Gabriela and Gerhard Michel-Breitenstein live onsite and welcome you like old friends. They are always there to suggest extraordinary day-trip itineraries as well as hikes in this breathtakingly beautiful setting. They were even able to sell us a rail / ferry pass that saved us considerable money on our explorations in this area and throughout the rest of our trip. We stayed 3 nights and had a balcony room in the front of the hotel. The hotel is immaculate and Gerhard's flower boxes on all the windows create a picture-perfect Chalet. The view from the hotel and our balcony took our breath away....looking at snowcapped peaks of the Eiger, Jungfrau, and Munch range....with green pastures below. The room was large and very comfortable. We delighted in being awakened by cowbells each morning as the farmers moved their cows just below our balcony. Expansive continental breakfasts were a wonderful way to start the day. What wonderful baked goods! And, after seeing their reasonably priced dinners (Switzerland is extremely expensive), we decided to have dinner there the first night. It was so wonderful, we ate there all 3 nights, and all 3 dinners were excellent. They are graciously flexible if you want only a partial dinner....and will alter the menu if you have special requests. We'd stay here again and again. Many thanks to Gabriella and Gerhard. And we enjoyed meeting your handsome sons.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room in the front

This was our first time in Switzerland. Our original booking elsewhere fell through, and we happened upon this beautiful 27-room hotel just north of the village of Grindelwald. We were fortunate that there was room for us. We were walk-ins and were able to stay for 3 nights. It was a place we will always go back to when we return to Grindelwald. The owners are the 4th generation of the same family of inn keepers. Gabi and Gary (and Elsbeth, the mother) couldn't have been more gracious. The dinners (fixed menu only for the guests) were prepared by a chef who has been there 30 years. The presentation and the food itself were perfection. The views from our window were breathtaking. The room(s), we had to change rooms once since we were unexpected, were always clean and comfortable. We had our own balcony. All transportation tickets were printed by Gary, a huge time-saver. The excursion by cog railway to the top of the Jungfraujoch was the highlight of our stay.

Room Tip: Our room had a balcony as I think they all do. We faced north. It was very quiet. I imagine if th...

Perfect location. Perfect room. Perfect hosts. Perfect restaurant. I can't say enough about our week-long stay here. The owners were so helpful and informative. Very spacious room with lots of storage. The view was the best in Switzerland!!!
The breakfast delicious - just what you need for a day of hiking:). The 4-course dinner was gourmet but reasonably priced. Bathroom was a bit small but had lots of storage & counter space. Typical Swiss pillows - too soft so bring your pillows. I would recommend this wonderful, warm & cozy place to anyone!

We stayed for 3 nights and regretted not staying longer. The owners of this hotel were very friendly, and extend good hospitality. Station transfer to hotel is provided. Every return to the hotel will greeted warmly by them. The food provided by the in-house restaurant were great. Room amenities were well covered and most importantly very clean. Not to mention the spectacular glacier mountain views from the balcony. This is really a paradise! The surroundings are peaceful and quiet, didn't see much tour buses, which is great! We will definitely return !

We stayed here with friends at the beginning of June, 2013. Everything I could say would fall short of trying to explain what a wonderful hotel this is. The views -- spectacular. The hosts -- spectacular. The accommodations -- spectacular. The food -- you guessed it -- spectacular. There's an obvious trend with this review. I cannot think of one single thing I would have changed about our stay here, save the weather which was unseasonably cold and rainy for June.

If you're going to be in Grindelwald or anywhere near Jungfrau, the Hotel Gletschergarten HAS to be on your short list of places to stay. It is simply that good.

Room Tip: Can't remember our room number, but it was on the third floor with a private balcony, looking st...

I was able to spend a few days in Grindelwald at the end of a business trip and chose Hotel Gletschergarten based on the positive reviews. I can say that the reviews matched my experience fully. The room was excellent (street facing with balcony view of the White Church and the Eiger, not noisy in the evening) and clean. Breakfast buffet was nice, and waitstaff were accommodating with my request for soft-boiled egg and cappuccino.

Probably the nicest feature of the hotel were the accommodating hosts--Gabriela and Gerhard. Definitely ask for their hiking and sightseeing suggestions. They gave great suggestions based on our interests and abilities. We visited during a period of "variable" weather, and their suggestions were spot on for hiking--taking maximum advantage of the occasional views we had. My favorite hike was from Busalp to Bort. Nice views across the valley to the mountains, as well as ever changing vignettes of the local countryside. (Lots of cows, trees, and water.)

Tips: Definitely take up their offer to shuttle you to and from the train station. It's a bit of a walk with luggage. Free bus pass on registration for the in-town buses makes getting back and forth to the hotel easy once you're there. They can issue your train tickets with the appropriate discounts at the hotel desk, which saves standing in line. (They will also advise you on the most economical approach to take for some of the more tourist-dense venues.) Washer and drier in the basement were great after being on the road for a week!
