Silvi's Dream Catcher Inn Guesthouse
Ranked #2 of 22 Grindelwald B&B and Inns
Reviewed January 4, 2014

When planning our trip to Switzerland, I came across Silvi's Dreamcatcher Inn and it basically put Grindelwald on the itinerary. We stayed for 2 nights in the Sonnengruss room at the beginning of December. Because the ski season hadn't really started yet, we were the only guests in the entire house. If I had the choice of rooms again, I'd probably pick one with with a front view but ours was lovely just the same.

The house was a little tricky to find and despite using our GPS we had a bit of trouble finding it but upon phoning Silvi, her husband Horst promptly met us downtown so that we could follow him. The road up to the house is quite steep and icy in the winter so our little car was parked below. Horst drove us up and down with our luggage but in between, we had to walk. It was fine with us and provided us with some laughs but those with less mobility might struggle.

Our hosts, Silvi, Horst & Sandra were so lovely. They were great about recommending things for us and we especially enjoyed the homemade breakfast in the mornings which was substantial and delicious. We also made use of the outdoor hot tub and enjoyed Horst's wine. This was the one place on our trip that we wish we had an extra day as the B&B was so relaxing. We hope to someday return in the summer & check out their vineyards.

Note: You must pay in cash when you check out so make sure you have enough on hand.

We stayed here for 3d2n in November and it is good. We took the room "Firnganz" which is facing the Eiger. The view is amazing from our room's balcony.

On the night we arrived, Sandra came and picked us up. She even drove us back to town center for our dinner, Thank you very much, Sandra.
The breakfast is excellent as well with different varieties.

On the last day of our stay, it started to snow and it is the first snow of November. I managed to make a mini snowman on our balcony table. haha.
Due to the fresh snow, the house is inaccessible by car because the house is on a hilltop.
But it provided us another form of entertainment - Sledding. hahaha
Silva is very kind to lend us her sled to transport our luggage down the hill.
With Damaris help, my wife managed to sled down the hill while I was stuck halfway and walked down, but it was fun.
Thank you, Damaris, for helping us with our luggage and the preparation of breakfast.

One more tip, if you find it difficult to walk back from grindelwald centre to Silvi Dreamhouse due to tired muscles or snowy conditions, feel free to use the free taxi phone call reservations at the booth opposite the train station. CHF15 one way in my opinion is worth it versus braving winds and snow for a long walk upslope.

this is definitely a home away from home. we stayed here for 3 nights. the view is excellent. the rooms are excellent. the breakfast is excellent. the people are excellent. silvi and Sandra were great hosts. they gave all the information we needed and were very happy. we reached early and used the public phone just opposite the station to call Sandra, she came to pick us up within 15mins. so please take note of her number before leaving a wifi hotspot.

when we reached, she told us all about the place. what we could do. taught us how to use the coffee machine and so on. we were also given a visitor card and bus time-table which allowed u to take certain buses everyday for free. that was amazing!

but only one problem, there was a super steep and slippery slope you have to walk down to reach the bus stop. it was less than 5mins walk but it is really dangerous. walking up after returning was a full body workout. if you are old and not very fit, I really think it will be a big problem. for us, it was fine. we were fine but I really think it would be a big problem for older folks or even children. please make sure your shoes are of good quality and have really good grip.

there is a simple supermarket just at the bus stop itself, so u can buy anything you need. or you could take the bus to the main village and buy food and stuff.

please remember to get your dinner ready because it gets dark fast and having dinner at the village and then taking the last bus back and having to walk up the super dark, super slippery and unlit road at night is super dangerous.

oh, the bed and pillow was really too soft for me. we were in the Jacuzzi room. it was so soft that it suffered a frozen shoulder and it is still aching till now. but I think have the softness of the pillow and beds is subjective, so I cant complain.

we had a great stay. we are very happy. but I thought future guests should know these stuff. :)

Room Tip: all rooms have their own good points and all are super cool!

Silvi and Horst are so warm and friendly! They make you very much at home in their BnB.
Beautiful rooms, nicely decorated throughout. Modern fixtures in Bathroom. Had a deck furnished
with table and chairs for dining and sipping wine. (Horst is a winemaker). Cannot say enough about their breakfasts.... HUGE! Careful not to fill up on the breads, pastry's, cheeses, fruits,
and Muesli - cause the breakfast is just beginning! Freshly made eggs, cereals and fruit compotes.
It's a substantial meal if one were to then go out skiing for the day - or as we did - hiking for the day.
Silvi is terrific with suggestions and maps - even made sure that we got to the correct bus stop and took the correct bus for our day journey.

Room Tip: Facing the alps with deck.

I don't typically rate any service, restaurant or hotel with a 5 star, but this deserves it wholeheartedly. From the personalized service to the exquisite food and ambience.

The only drawback is finding it in the dark, even with GPS, and staying there during the most recent heat wave, without AC. They do not accept Credit Card, which is typical for smaller enterprises in Europe.

Regardless, this should not take away from this once in a lifetime experience.

Room Tip: You really need a car and you should feel comfortable driving and walking on steep terrain

Great views and a hot tub with its own great view. Silvi has excellent suggestions of what to see and do what the different hiking trails offer as well as rainy day suggestions. Very nice breakfast. We drank wine in the hot tub every evening. Note: Silvi only accepts cash for payment.

Silvi's has the most perfect setting in Grindelwald! Located high above the town, one can see not only a full view of the spectacular mountains, but also the picturesque village below and the rolling green pasture that surrounds it. The inn is as attractive as shown in all the photos. There are countless details that make every glance a delight. Even the flowers and plants are picture perfect.

The only sounds are those from the cow bells and the dripping water, that flows from a spring into the carved out trough. I could have been content to have sat on the balcony, or in one of the pleasant seating areas on the large deck, and spent all my time taking in the magnificent sights and sounds, but the area held many activities to pursue. These were kindly pointed out by Silvi and her husband, Horst, and their daughter, Sandra, who do all of the work at the inn from cooking to gardening with help from Sandra's delightful boys.

Horst and Silvi had previously operated a large restaurant, with Horst as chef, so the breakfasts were outstanding. Breads, preserves, tarts and jams were all homemade; the eggs, rosti, bacon, local cheeses and cured meats provided for an abundant and delicious breakfast.

We loved our stay: the beauty within and without, the warm and generous hospitality, the delicious breakfasts. I shall dream of returning one day! Thank you, Sandra, Silvi and Horst...and the boys!

Room Tip: "Weihsicht" is the room under the eaves. It is as charming as every other place within the...
