“Missed the Olympics - but Gold and Silver medals given to the Pinte!”
Reviewed February 20, 2014

We had reserved for Lunch in the bar...the Pinte (a must!) and were welcomed with a good table, smiles and the offer to hang our coats.
We were 5 and our friends had been skiing in the morning.
As we were missing today's TV coverage of the Olympics in Russia, we decided to have as our main course their "Signature dish"...Penne a la Vodka. Although a common pasta, the Vodka somehow gave it a "mellow" finish and it was delicious. We gave it a Silver Medal!
But the Gold Medal went to the starter. It was another "simple" dish made special. It was a Carpaccio, sliced so thinly you could see through it. It had a criss-cross pattern of a mild mustard-based, mayonnaise (?) and a very well selected Gruyere (?) cheese. Both of these went exceedingly well with the beef and the whole dish was very well balanced.
We had 2 bottles of a local Pinot Noir, which was very light for a Pinot (but not light in price).
The place was fully occupied, with mostly "the beautiful people" (what else in Gstaad!) and the service continued smiley, friendly and professional.
We really enjoyed the meal here, so much so, that we almost missed the Goldenpass train back!

“Bar and Restaurant- Good!”
Reviewed January 2, 2014 via mobile

The food is good, but not excellent! The bar is a very lively place, a little loud, good service, and decor great, a place to see and be see... The dining rooms are nice, quieter. When you are known in this restaurant you definitely are served better!
The veal with white truffles, Tagliarini was just ok, truffles cooked into or on top of the veal, not shaved on....desert toblerone mouse was outstanding...

“The Invisible Man (& Wife)”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

Never actually ate or even had a drink here. Walked in- got ignored by the MaitreD, then by a waitress, then by bar service and oh, the waiter is also ignoring us. We stood at the entrance to the bar waiting to be seated (or at least acknowledged). Waited for two long embarrassing minutes before leaving the place. We followed the ignorant MaitreD out through the door who seemed more excited in meeting his arriving italian friends outside (after letting the door close on my wife). Ever felt like the Invisible Man? You will here.
Unless you arrive chauffeur-driven or look/speak/behave like an italian, then I wouldn't bother if I were you.
Currently this is only 13th best restaurant in Gstaad- room for improvement Bernie.

“Top Class in the Gstaad Village”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

Now Property of the Formula 1 mogul Bernie Ecclestone (may I have, Bern,a ticket for the Monaco GP?LOL). 40 years ago, the Olden was the bourgeois pendant of the Aristocratic Palace de Gstaad. Now it is more than that, it is the "repaire" of the French Jet-setters flying Hollande overtaxing and the rich Italian lawyers with their Marchesa wives...

The Italian service is impeccable and downstairs the terrace is full of ambiance with the traditional Olden musician. After 10 PM it start to be "nicely wild" (compare to the Dralks in St.Moritz).

We were not very keen on their house champagne (Tsarine), I really prefer the great names such as Taiitinger and Mumm. The "Loup de Mer" was perfect, the Carpaccio was excellent and very pretty and I loved the small chicken from France. It was not a "Poussin de Bresse" (thanks for my wallet), but excellent (I dare not to compare it with the horrors I eat in Sarasota FL.).

We loved the nearby "Aigle des Murailles" formally "clos des murailles" white wine from Baudoux as usual. It is certainly the more decent Swiss white wine.

Olden is not cheap, but not astronomicaly priced. But be ready to wear nice clothes, dresses, watches and jewellery as people look at you when you are in the nice terrace located on the pedestrian main street of Gstaad.
