We found ourselves in Gstaad to stay, as Glacier 3000 was the only ski slope open during the week of 23 Nov 2008. We stayed at Post Hotel Rossli after being recommended by locals on our train ride to Gstaad.

If you are looking for clean, comfortable and safe atmosphere, I highly recommend Post Htel Rossli. It is a short walk from the train station. The staff is wonderful and the rooms are very cozy. There is free internet access and a computer to use. A gathering room offers checkers/TV/computer...feels like home.

my wife and i decided to stay in gstaad for a week in jan and it was everything we thought it would be. hotel was very clean and with a great atmosphere.we never had a meal there so cannot comment on the food. the olden hotel across the road was fantastic for an evening meal. plenty of walking trails in the mountains although we did have to wait 2 days before it snowed. all in all we had a fantastic time and would def go back.

In June 07 26 of us, from Ireland, stayed here. We were on a walking holiday and I found the hotel to be warm, friendly and clean. I have stayed in some of the best hotels around the world and I must admit that this 3 star was more enjoyable than some of the 5 stars. I believe that all of our party enjoyed their stay there. We were made to feel welcome and at home by the owners and staff. The breakfast was excellent and set us up for our long morning walks. A lovely, cosy hotel well situated in a most beautiful town . I would certainly return again.

This was one of the worst hotels I have stayed in for a while. The service was terrible and the food was inedible. Try the Gstaaderhold instead - much better hotel

If you don't know about it....

(*) utterly incredible food

(*) exactly in the centre of the good end of Gstaad

(*) simple sporty homely rooms with clean basic beds, etc

(*) Gstaad has two or three "palace" hotels in large parks just outside town - some are a bit cute with cinderella towers, etc. These palace hotels are wondrous, but staying in the plain old Rossli in the centre is way, way cool.

(*) relatively reasonable prices

(*) famous staff members, etc etc

(*) celebrities hiding out (celebrities have good taste too!)

There is only some car parking at the hotel itself. Gstaad's centre streets are traffic free (you are allowed to sneak in to park at the Rossli) .. but there are only a few parking places. We have always been lucky, but depending on your attitude it may suck for you to have to park in the parking structure a couple blocks away outside of the zentrum.

There is also the OLDEN Hotel which is one block away in the car-free centre up the hill -- the Olden is kind of an over-art-directed version of the Rossli (nothing's quite like the Rossli)

In short, unique in the world -------- your dream low-key traditional hotel in the middle of maybe the trendiest of all ski towns ---- where else would you stay?

In the cosy "Gaststube" you meet locals mixed with celebrities and the innkeeper Widmer is mostly there sitting at the wooden round table. The atmosphere is just perfect, faboulous, but if you want to have dinner in the "Gaststube" make early reservations.

We stayed for three nights in July and were very happy. This is a great hotel for a three star, with a location in the middle of the pedestrian-only zone, and an excellent value for Gstaad.

The room (superior) was quite large and clean with a sparkling clean bathroom and large deck (no view though).. The breakfast is above average and the one dinner we had in the restaurant was quite good (traditional Swiss) at a very reasonable price.

Lars, the gentleman at the front desk, was very helpful with booking activities and in cancelling a reservation at another hotel further along on our vacation.

We also dined at the Rialto (Italian and good) and in the restaurant at the Hotel Olden (the Mediterranean-style seabass for two, though expensive, was extraordinarily good).

We also did two adventures with H2O Experience (run by a gentleman named Pascal), whitewater rafting and canyoning. Both are highly recommended, especially canyoning, for the willing and able.
