The restaurant occupies the first floor of a beautiful chalet in the center of Gstaad. Very charming interior, you can expect wood, fireplace, cosy athosphere. Many regular guests, who clearly get recognition and that's the only negative comment on this restaurant that if you're there for the first time, you'll have to be a bit patient with the service as they will always focus on their regular guests first. Having said this, the restaurants's high Michelin and Gault Millaut ratings are definitely deserved, the wine list is outstanding and the quality of the food is excellent. Dress smart casual or elegant, men are not expected to wear a tie but a jacket is kind of a must. Expect to see celebs quite frequently but you're expected to respect their privacy - Gstaad is an old money Mountain resort and the Chesery it's highes rated restaurant so discretion is a big thing.

The culinary highlight of our four-night trip to Switzerland was lunch (Fridays and Saturdays only) at Chesery. Mouth-wateringly good, eye-wateringly expensive (although the pound was going through a rough patch at the time). The menu midi was 86 SFr, and consisted of a pre-starter, a choice of two starters (we had the ris de veau, succulent and tender), pea soup (incredible), choice of two mains (we had grilled fish - nice pieces of turbot and something else served with mediterranean vegetables), brie de meaux of their own making - excellent; followed by coffee. Every dish was superb (although there was a little too much fish, we had to finish it, it was so good), and the local wine was superb although expensive - we had the Fendant at 62 SFr which was one of the cheaper choices - recommended by the waiter and it was a superb choice. Never knew Swiss wine was so good. The whole meal was superb, and if you don't mind paying 289 SFr for lunch (we ate economy class for days afterwards) you should try it. Gstaad is a very pretty village, even when there's not much snow, and you can get there by scenic train from Montreux (well worth waiting for the panoramic train - not all services have observation cars); Montreux is on the main line from Geneva via Lausanne.
