We had a fantastic day on our journey up the Jungfraujoch.
We had been watching the weather and once the forecast indicated clear skies we made plans for the following morning.
we were travelling from Wengen so took the first train at the not too outrageous time of 7.24 and were at the top before 9. We were keen to walk on the glacier so headed straight for the snow, walked over to the Monchjochhutte- an hour walk along a well marked and safe path across the glacier .It is mostly uphill on the way and you really feel the altitude , a certain degree of fitness is certainly needed to do much activity once at the top. We had breakfast and a rest at the Monchjochhutte before heading back.
the sun is really strong , so you need to make sure to wear sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. We all wore good walking shoes with decent grips which were perfectly adequate, mine were not waterproof and were fine but i think the snow may get slushier as the day wears on . It wasn't very cold, we wore t-shirts, light fleece sweaters and our waterproof jackets and were warm enough.
Our boys, 7 and 8 loved the sledging - and at 10 SF each for 2 hours- we thought it was good value.
We also visited the Lindt chocolate shop- the prices were cheaper than in the supermarket in Wengen.
But it gets really really crowded as the day goes on , i can certainly emphasise with some of the other reviews about feeling "herded " onto and off the train so my tip would be to go early if possible.
