Owner description: Icy air streams across your face, snow crunches under your feet, and the view nearly takes your breath away: on one side the view of the Mittelland up to the Vosges, on the other the Aletsch glacier, bordered by four thousand metre peaks. Standing on the Jungfraujoch 3,454 metres above sea level, you can feel it with your first step: this is a different world. It's one you have to experience.

My wife and i decided to head up to Jungfraujoch and see what all the fuss was about.

Well, apparently it's the restaurant. Crystal restaurant to be exact. Fantastic food and service.

Yes, the views were great from the platform and yes, it's an amazing location. But the real question here is.... is it worth the 2 hours each way?

My answers is two-part. If you can only see this mountain, then yes, go for it. If you plan to go to other places, like Mt. Pilatus, or Gornergrat in Zermatt, then skip this one. Particularly if you only have 1 or 2 days in this area. It's an all day activity any way you slice it.

We first heard it wasn't worth visiting from a native from Interlaken. But we figured they were just a jaded local. But after visiting here and other places elsewhere in Switzerland i agree. This isn't the best mountain or view of Switzerland. Go to Zermatt, take the train up around that region or even take a helicopter tour near the Matterhorn if you truly want the best photographs of these types of things.

That's not to say all was bad, the views are good and it has a glacier walk and such. But overall, it's a bit of a tourist trap in my honest opinion. And let me not forget the price! We both had a swisspass, so for us, it was much cheaper than the normal ticket price. And i still feel the way i do about this attraction, i suppose if i paid full price, i'd go down to 3 stars.

Either you're from a tropical or four-seasons country. I'm sure you'll find the spectacular sceneries a breath-taking and amazing one. We had a day tour up to the mountain through 2 different interconnected train to the tip of the mountain. It has got one of the best snow and icy mountain views in any part of the world, maybe slightly better than the Mont Blanc but it is in a larger scale and different perspectives of it. We spent our lunch in the restaurant at the peak and having quite some fun time in the snow! Yes, on the price side, it is quite pricey but it could be once (though i believe i will be there again) in the life time. Go for it for anyone wanted a life experience.

We stayed in Interlaken and spent a day up at Jungfrau. It was amazing, albeit a little pricy. We had spent hours in the snow and did the zip line, snowboarding and tobogganing. We had lunch in on of the restaurants and visited the ice cave. I would recommend this trip to anyone.

We had a truly brilliant day up here! Although the price of 172 francs each is extortionate, at the end of the day we felt it was money well spent.

Firstly, the train journey itself up from Grindelwald Grund to Kleine Scheidegg is breathtaking. The last journey up through the Eiger goes really quickly, we didn't find it boring at all and the interactive tv's have lots of information.

There's also lots to do once you get to the top. The ice palace was something we'd never experienced and walking around on the outdoor viewing platform was one of the scariest things I've ever done, my heart was literally in my mouth the whole time, if heights are a problem for you then just try not to look down past your feet through the mesh:-) We chose to have lunch at the Crystal Restaurant and it was so good I had to do a separate review :-) It was wonderful being able to take a walk out onto the mountains, something you can't do at the Schilthorn.

It's a very different situation to Schilthorn. The views are equally stunning but different in that you're more closely surrounded by higher mountains at Jungfraujoch. We actually preferred the setting here.

Beware though, it is tourist heaven and absolutely ram packed with hundreds of noisy school children! They made such a noise on the way up that we had to move seats as we couldn't hear the information being given on the interactive tv screen. However it was easy to change seats once everyone gets off for the 5 minute panorama stops at the 3 stations on the way up.

We probably won't do this trip again but we are truly glad that we did it this once!
