“overpriced, undercooked fish, old salad - stay away!”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

What a complete and utter disgrace. We've never had such lousy food in Switzerland. Old and wilted lettuce, fish was rotten.

I am seriously considering calling the health inspectors.

“A bit of "Slow food" phylosophy in Switzerland”
Reviewed May 2, 2012 via mobile

This place is very nice for serveral reasons: first of all the quality of the food, the restaurant belongs to the "slow food" circuit which is kind of guarantee. Second: the atmosphere is quite cool, artistic-like and young. Third: it's in the centr of town and it's opened on Sunday since morning to evening continuously, which in Switzerland should not be underestimated. On top of it it's also an hotel. Strongly recommended.

“Like walking into a cuckoo clock surrounded by wood!”
Reviewed January 5, 2012

Upon my first visit they had a limited menu only with a choice of traditional flat bread with sour cream topped with emmental and either veggies or meats. I chose the veggie option and it was okay but not that fabulous. Bit rich and sickly so glad I only had a small one. Served on a chopping board by a miserable waitress. My husband had pork escalope with chips, all very oily and greasy but he seemed to enjoy it. The place is great for a quick snack or drink but due to the limited menu probably not the best reflection of what they are capable of. If only they had the pumpkin strudel available I would have been very happy.

“Best in Solothurn”
Reviewed February 14, 2011

I went to Baseltor with a large group of 14 people. They handled us quite well, though I'm sure we were a handfull. The food was quite good. The menu was a mix of traditional Swiss and Northern Italian with a good selection of fresh, seasonal foods.

“A gem of a restaurant in a gem of a baroque city”
Reviewed August 16, 2009

We stopped for lunch last week at the Baseltor on our way from Geneva to Zurich, the hotel/restaurant is right next to the convenient Baseltor parking garage and right at the beginning of the main street through the historic part of Solothurn, a beautiful small city filled with baroque buildings. The food (very varied, with lots of local dishes) and service were excellent and cheerful (it's run by a cooperative), and you can see right into the kitchen. Prices are reasonable. The building was restored a number of years ago and won an architectural prize. The restaurant is a favorite of the film community during the Solothurn film festival and its informal atmosphere and bright, clean lines put you in a good mood as soon as you walk through the door.
