Owner description: The Rhine Falls, the biggest waterfall in Europe, offer the visitors a spectacular sight! 17,000 years ago this impressive wonder of nature was formed and is now the main attraction for countless visitors from all over the world. Over a width of 150 metres and a height of 23 metres, an average of 700,000 litres of water cascade over the rocks every second. A boat ride to the famous rock in the middle of the Falls and the short walk to the top, is an unforgettable experience for every visitor.

“Well worth the trip”
Reviewed August 11, 2011

It's a bit of a train ride from Zurich out to where you need to go (Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall), but once you get there, it is well worth the trip. Hop off the train and hike up the hill to the shop at the top of the hill so you can buy a ticket to go to the observation deck and the adventure trail. There is a castle and other buildings at the top as well. Great views and great pictures. There are boats you can take to go to the rock but we didn't do that. you can drive out and come in from the other side as well. If you have a half day to spend - it's a nice trip.

“Stunning”
Reviewed August 10, 2011

Fantastic views and lots of opportunities to take some lovely pics. Went on a really hot day, and although the way to the falls is down th e way back up is fairly steep. Easy enough to visit in half a day. Wouldn't recommend spending the whole day there, though definitely worth a visit!

“And the winner is.. nature!”

Not only about Alps is Switzerland. If you spend calmly just a few days in northern part of the country, or if you come closer to Bodensee from the Germans side, be sure you do not miss this.
When approaching from the train station at the castle, be ready to climb up a few stairs to the entrance. Than just get the camera ready, have a raincoat close to you just for sure and go on the spot. Nothing else you need with the exception of a few Swiss francs. It was a bit surprise for us that we had to purchase the tickets just to see waterfalls.. On the other hand there are built pavements and even a balcony, which will allow you later, as you advance closer to the level of the water and even under it, to see everything very, very close!
Here you can make thousands of pictures and even movies which also can capture the everlasting sound of falling and splintering water. And for those adventurous, they have boats at the opposite river bank here which will take you to the rocks in the middle of the falls.
This is an unique experience even for those who are more fascinated by humans architecture then by some natural phenomenon. As you will have shower later at home, this is what comes on your mind just after you rollover the tap!

“The Biggest European Waterfall”
Reviewed July 26, 2011

This waterfall is 150 meters large, 23 meters high and every second between 95 and 1250 cube-meters of water fall down the clips. These are very spectacular quantities especially if there is as much water is as there was today!
You can join the waterfall from the Dachsen side (Laufen castle) or from the Neuhausen side. Both sides are connected with a walking path over the railway bridge (20 minutes easy walk). Unfortunately this walk contains stairs.
If you like to visit the fall from the Laufen castle you walk down the steep path or you take the elevator. You can see the falls from different points. The lowest point (not accessible by wheel chair) is really close to the waterfall. Handicapped people can’t reach the fall by public transport but only from the parking space.
From Neuhausen you walk down to the river where the little castle "Wörth" is. Handicapped people can be driven down, there are parking spaces for them available. You can see Laufen castle and of course the Rhine fall from here. From here you can make great pictures.
There are different options where you can have a meal. There is a Gault & Miliau restaurant at Wörth castle, there are good restaurants on both sides of the fall and there are also snack bars around.

“A great day trip from Zurich.”
Reviewed July 17, 2011

We took the train to Neuhausen so we could walk the 3km back towards the falls. (Some trains stop at Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall, which is right next to the falls.) The walk from Neuhausen along the river was very enjoyable, well-marked and took about 25 mins. Once we got to the falls, we went towards Schlossi Worth first. From there you have a great view of the falls and have many clearly labeled options for a variety of boats to and around the falls. (To go stand on the rock in the middle of the falls cost 8 CHF/person, roundtrip.) We found the smaller snack shops to be a decent and cheaper option for lunch, instead of the fancier restaurants. We then walked over the train/pedestrian bridge towards Schloss Laufen where you can pay another 5 CHF to take the "adventure trail" which goes all the way down the hill to the falls. It is definitely worth visiting both sides of the falls and taking the walk in from Neuhausen. It was raining the day we visited, but we still had a great time and managed to avoid any large crowds (just bring an umbrella or poncho).
