Delicious food and nice atmosphere. I can recommend. In the summer you can be nicely seated in the yard of the castle.

Chef Pennlington has been at the helm of the Hôtel DuPeyrou it is is named here for several years. The restaurant is a set in a wonderful 17 or 18th century mansion with a 'jardin à la française' in front, in the center of Neuchâtel. Chef Pennlington is preparing a fare that is both inspired, inspiring, drawing from his native New Zealand, Asia in general and a classical education. The mix of tastes, products and spices is always a suprise and a delight!
Add to this a cheese cellar (not to miss!) as well as an extensive wine list from all over the world, and you have a gem.
The 2nd floor has ancient rooms for receptions, dinners and events and of course catered by Pennlington and his wife.

Beautiful decor and the food is just wow. It is very fancy and well served, not the place for big eaters as the portions are small.

The Hotel du Peyrou is a great place for that special dinner. Its a palace in its own gardens in the heart of Neuchatel. Gastronomic food prepared by the resident Australian chef. Special tip: be sure to try the "cheese cellar"!
Not cheap but well worth it.

My husband (omnivore) and I (vegetarian) ate at this restaurant, considered one of the top restaurants in the region. He rather enjoyed his meal of chicken and mushrooms with a lemon risotto and the accompanying wines. He also really liked the rhubarb crumble for dessert. My meal, however, was a significant disappointment. After a small green salad, I was presented a rather small bowl of fluffy rice with a tablespoon or so of finely diced vegetables. The rice was lemony but unexciting, and there were no accompaniments such as sauteed or steamed vegetables or lentils or other legume. It really felt like very little thought had been spent coming up with this meal. To make it worse, a few bites in to the rice, I found a small insect plastered to one of the grains of rice. Given the mediocre taste of the dish, I decided not to finish my dinner and thankfully was able to share my husband's bread. My dessert was a trio of sorbets; the two fruit sorbets were pleasant enough, but the third herbal sorbet was unappetizing, with a strange aftertaste. In all, I really expected more from this establishment based upon its regional reputation.

I will say that the staff seemed pleasant, and the decor was quite beautiful. Based on my experience, you likely will have decent luck if you are a meat-eater, but I would avoid Peyrou for vegetarians.
