“As often as possible”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

We try to be up here as often as possible. During summer for mountain biking, during winter for walks. Stunning view! Great place! Plenty of walks!

“Beautiful Scenery”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

The scenery on the way to the top of Mt Rigi was breathtaking. Unfortunately when we reach the peak it was snowing very heavily and we can't do anything. There was another train down to the other side of the mountain and we only found out about it when we went bk down. Quite disappointed that we weren't told about it.

“Not the best time of the year for a visit - but worth it nevertheless”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

I travelled here with my family on a round trip from Zurich in April 2013. We wanted to get an experience of the Swiss Alps, hopefully find a bit of snow to play in, eat some lunch and then descend (by cable car...) to Weggis, and then to Luzern by boat. All did not go according to plan, but we had a good day out anyway!

The trip was organised with the help of the very good staff at the Zurich Hauptbahnhof Tourist Information office - who gave very good information (though, in the end not accurate!) information about the train times, costs and options for travel. The trip was not cheap - CHF 121 per adult and CHF 58 for children (ours were 10 and 12) - so a pretty expensive day out!

We travelled by train from Zurich to Arth Goldau - a pleasant journey (as they all are!) and pretty quick. We then walked (in the rain...) for a few minutes (well signposted) to the Rigi Kulm railway station where we caught a mountain train to the summit. All very good fun as we climbed up the side of the mountain, seeing the appearance of snow (and lots of waterfalls!), pretty flowers, beautiful scenery.

The summit was pretty small - a hotel - that turned out to be shut (!) and a small cafe / gift shop (where we ate soup, drank hot chocolate and whiled away a couple of hours while the girls played in the snow. We weren't expecting much to do but would have eaten lunch at the hotel had it been open. We were afforded a very good view though and were happy enough to relax in the cafe until it was time to descend towards Lucern.

The only disappointment was that the Rigi Kaltbad to Weggis cablecar was shut. We only learned this as we were about to disembark the mountain train at Kaltbad and had asked for directions to the cablecar! We therefore journeyed to Vitznau where we caught a bus (10 mins) to Weggis and were just (literally just) in time for our connection to Luzern.

Overall the trip was worthwhile as part of a larger day out. I think I might have gone to Mount Titlis in retrospect (higher, more snow, chance of taking a cable car) had I known that the Rigi cablecar would be out of action during the week that we visited.

We travelled with "Best Switzerland Tours" to Mount Rigi, The first leg of the tour was on a bus, the tour guide gave us interesting information about Zurich and places along the way. The second leg of the tour was a trip by cable car from Weggis up to Rigi, the scenery was beautiful. Once we reached the top we were allowed 2 hours to spend there. One hour was enough to look around and take photos and have time to have a hot drink or eat at the local coffee shop and buy souvenirs. Afterwards we took the red cogwheel train down to Vitznau, again enjoying breathtaking views of the mountain. The third leg of the tour was an hour trip by boat to Lucerne, where we had aprox. 1.35 hrs. free time to look around before heading back to Zurich. We really enjoyed this tour as we have never been in a place like this, which made it more special.
